Job Description

Research Group Overview: The Tissue Mimetics group at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore (NUS) laboratory is primarily focused on developing next-generation tools for dental and craniofacial research. In particular, we focus on combining the expertise in stem cells, tissue engineering, microfluidics, organ-on-a-chip, 3D bioprinting, and non-invasive imaging to mimic various microphysiological features of tissues in health and diseased states and for translational regenerative applications.: We are seeking a highly creative and self-motivated, full-time Research Fellow for a multi-disciplinary project on the fabrication of cardiac and vascular tissues using 3D bioprinting and microfluidic organ-on-chip strategies. The successful candidate will manage laboratory operations and work independently on a project involving advanced research techniques in biofabrication (3D bioprinting, microfluidics), 3D cell culture, molecular biology, 3D imaging, and image analysis. This research will be primarily conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry (NUS), and at collaborator\'s labs at the Institute for Health Innovation & Technology (iHealthtech), and National Heart Research Institute Singapore (NHCS/NHRIS).Responsibilities:
- Be proficient in 3D design, Bioink/hydrogel formulation, and 3D bioprinting of cells and tissues.
- Operate extrusion-based 3D bioprinters independently.
- Independently and collaboratively manage the optimization, development, and characterization of hydrogels, bioink formulation, 3D bioprinting, and tissue culture processes.
- Microfluidic design, fabrication, and optimization of microfluidic organ-on-a-chip devices.
- Conduct confocal microscopy and immunostaining for high-resolution imaging and detection of specific proteins in cells and tissues.
- Confident and proficient in the handling of stem cells, 3D culture, biomaterials, and variety of molecular assays, histological, and 3D imaging techniques.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety and ethical guidelines.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and assist in the preparation of research reports, grant proposals, and publications.
- Identify and coordinate with external vendors for resource procurement.
- Closely interact with multi-disciplinary collaborators including clinicians, biologists, and engineers.Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Tissue Engineering, Dentistry, or related field.
  • Working experience and proficiency in bioink fabrication, 3D (bio)printing, microfluidics, and/or tissue engineering.
  • Proficiency in 3D design, AutoCAD, Fusion, Solidworks, COMSOL, ANSYS, or related applications.
  • Strong expertise in cell culture and handling of stem cells, molecular biology, immunostaining, and confocal imaging techniques.
  • Evidence of these skillsets through first-authored (preferably) and/or co-authored original research publications in the field of 3D bioprinting, microfluidics, and/or tissue engineering.
  • Strong organisational, literature review, administrative and problem-solving skills.
  • Be proficient in the preparation of research reports and publications.
  • Highly self-motivated, ability to work both as part of a team and independently with excellent presentation and communication skills (both written and verbal in English).
