Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

Join Our Team at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, SingaporeThe School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at NTU Singapore hosts research and education activities in two divisions: Division of Mathematical Sciences (MAS) and Division of Physics and Applied Physics (PAP). MAS covers diverse topics ranging from pure mathematics to the applications of mathematics in cryptography, computing, business, and finance. PAP covers many areas of fundamental and applied physics, including quantum information, condensed matter physics, biophysics, and photonics. Over the years, SPMS has attracted talented individuals from around the world and Singapore to join as scientific leaders and researchers.Position Available: Research FellowThe SpiNLab is looking for a Research Fellow led by Assoc. Prof S.N. Piramanayagam. The job involves exploring new physics, methods, materials (devices) and simultaneously exploiting different origins of orbital torque to achieve power-efficient spin-devices in perpendicular magnetic anisotropy materials. The job scope's demands the development domain wall MTJ devices for energy efficient neuromorphic application.Key Responsibilities:Perform device modeling based on micromagnetic simulations to propose new ideas and emulate the experimental results to comprehend the underlying physics.Perform project-related research, which includes shaping the given problem and performing related experimental and simulation work to achieve the final goal.Perform device modeling based on micromagnetic simulations to propose new ideas and emulate the experimental results to comprehend the underlying physics.Write annual reports to update the research progress.Manage purchase of equipment, materials, consumables and manage facilities usage, travel arrangements, conference presentations, public disclosure of the update.Take an active part in lab management, equipment maintenance, lab-related purchases (depending upon situational requirements), and lab setting up process.Carry analytical writing for publishing findings in the public domain and assist PI with reviewing manuscripts and writing grants.Mentor PhD and bachelor students.Procurement of lab equipment, consumables, and materialsUse of analytical programming languages to analyze dataMentoring of PhD and Masters/undergraduate studentsJob Requirements:PhD in Physics/Electrical/Electronics/computer Engineering.Previous work experience in managing the lab, training students, independent working and procuring the lab equipment.Expertise in MTJ device electrical characterization and MTJ device physics as the candidate will be involved in both experimental and simulation (theoretical) work of domain wall MTJ devices (specifically SOT driven domain wall dynamics) for neuromorphic applications.Expertise in micromagnetic simulations of spintronic devices and in circuit-level design and modeling for neuromorphic computing, as demonstrated by past publications.Effective communication and presentations skills, demonstrated by some recognitions in the past conferences.Good command of the analytical programming language (Python/Matlab) and graphical programming software such as LabVIEW, Mumax3, Digital/Analog design.Ability to work independently as well as in a team.Capability to assist PI in training new research students. The College of Science seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity.
