The University Counselling Services (UCS) (Health and Wellbeing, Office of the President) is responsible for the innovation, implementation and evaluation of health & wellbeing programmes which support the general student population in NUS, as well as specific students whom are exposed to acute mentally-stressful events.

Your role as the Residential Counsellor will provide support for students living on-campus, i.e. halls, residential colleges, student residences (you will not be required to live on-campus). As a residential counsellor, you will provide clinical psychological support to individual students and work with residential/departmental leaders to enhance students\' health and wellbeing. You will work with a team that is dynamic, fun, and most of all, passionate about supporting the health and wellbeing of our people.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Student Care Counseling, Assessment, Crisis and Case Management

  • Provide counselling services to students, supporting them through challenging situations and ensuring that they receive appropriate resources.
  • Conduct assessments.
  • Participate in management of crisis, which includes duty coverage and emergency response.
  • Provide psychological first aid and facilitate group debrief when required.
  • Be knowledgeable of the Code of Student Conduct, Sexual Misconduct Policy, housing regulations, and academic integrity policies; educate students about behavior, document incidents when they arise and support affected students.
  • Expect counselling sessions to happen after office hours.
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders in order to assist Hostels and Faculties/Schools to support students with mental health concerns or distress.
2. Training and Facilitation
  • Train and facilitate wellness, mental health literacy programmes to raise students\' awareness in stress management, mental health conditions and basic helping skills.
3. Participation in clinical projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate, coordinate and manage clinical projects.
  • Maintain records associated with their work and meet regularly with supervisor to provide check-ins, coordinate efforts and discuss professional development.
  • Seek regular training and professional development in areas related to core competencies of the position, in consultation with the supervisor and in line with strategic plan and priorities.
Qualifications
  • A recognized Master\'s degree in Counselling, Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years experiences in: i) counselling or case management, preferably with youths or young adults; ii) specialised work such us groupwork, trauma work, couple therapy; iii) facilitation or training of mental health and wellness programmes; and iv) crisis intervention work, would be an advantage.
  • Able to work flexible hours from 12.30 pm to 9.30pm for at least 2 to 3 days of the week to better engage hostel residents, as well as after office hours and weekends, as needed.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate in mental health advocacy and in supporting students in distress.
  • Resourceful with good organizational and planning skills.
  • Able to work with students and staff of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance or supervision, manage multiple priorities effectively as well as collaborate in a team.
  • Able to conduct risk assessment and provide the necessary support and intervention.
  • Able to provide strategic support in accordance with centre\'s goals.
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including capacity to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and versatile with social media.
