Position Summary



The Kitchen Assistant supports the overall operations of the kitchen by assisting in food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, and ensuring smooth workflow under the supervision of the Head Chef or Instructor. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment, contributing to high standards of food quality and safety.


Key Responsibilities



Assist in the preparation of ingredients (e.g. washing, peeling, chopping, portioning). Support cooking and plating under the direction of the Chef or Instructor. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, equipment, and utensils according to food safety standards. Ensure all work surfaces and storage areas are kept clean, organised, and properly sanitised. Assist in receiving and storing food supplies, checking for freshness and quality. Dispose of waste safely and manage recycling procedures in accordance with kitchen policy. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for food handling, storage, and preparation. Ensure compliance with hygiene and safety regulations (SFA, NEA, or school kitchen safety guidelines). Support the setup and teardown of kitchen workstations during classes, events, or CCA activities. Assist in basic inventory management (checking stock levels and reporting shortages). Carry out any other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the Chef, Instructor, or Teacher-in-Charge.

Requirements / Qualifications



Minimum Secondary education or equivalent. Prior experience in a commercial, institutional, or school kitchen preferred. Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices. Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Good communication and teamwork skills. Responsible, punctual, and detail-oriented. Able to follow instructions and work under supervision.
