Job Description


Job Scope:

Collection Maintenance (Print Resources and Non-Print Resources):

(a) Circulate library collection available for loan;

(b) Ensure that the library print resources shelved by genres and the library non-print resources are accessible by staff and students;

(c) Index, archive and update Project Work materials (i.e. Written Report) based on school needs;

(d) Index, archive and update past assessment papers based on school needs;

(e) Consult Heads of Department (HODs) (IP and Non-IP) on recommendations for collection development with regards to school collection profiles and curricular and non-curricular needs (in consultation with the schools\xe2\x80\x99 Library Coordinator);

(f) Coordinate with supplier(s) in the procurement, selection, delivery and verification of print and non-print resources, as instructed by HOD/ICT or Library Coordinator;

(g) Classify, catalogue, process and genrefy new library resources into the LAS; and

(h) Check inventory of library resources and weed library resources at least once a year to ensure currency, relevance and optimum use of the shelf space (in consultation with the school\xe2\x80\x99s Library Coordinator)

Promotion of Reading and Acquisition of Research Skills:

(i) Publicise library collection, services and activities through thematic / new arrivals / promotional displays, newsletters and school\xe2\x80\x99s TV message or broadcast system (in consultation with the school\xe2\x80\x99s Library Coordinator);

(j) Provide loan, advisory, information and enquiry services to students and teachers:

  • Assist walk-in users as well as queries made through phone calls or emails
  • Help to locate sources of information from print and non-print resources
(k) Integrate library programmes into the curriculum to promote library and information skills; instruction and reading, including but not limited to:
  • Conduct library orientation programmes (including tours) for new student librarians
  • Conduct basic user education programmes and information literacy for student librarians to teach them how to search for and evaluate information, as instructed by Library Coordinator or Library CCA Teacher-in-charge
  • Provide assistance and support in different types of reading activities such as book sharing sessions, book review programmes, quizzes, Library Week
(l) Engage regular users to gather feedback on their interests, activities and needs;

(m) Assist teachers in conducting activities to develop student librarians such as workshops, camps, Librarians\xe2\x80\x99 Investiture, Values in Action (VIA); and

(n) Assist teachers in conducting school-based library programmes / activities at the college level.

Analysis of Collection:

(o) Operate the Library Automated Service (LAS) in the area of circulation, database maintenance, e.g. student and staff information, and status / location of library collection;

(p) Carry out shelf checking or shelf reading; and

(q) Prepare, analyse and evaluate monthly reports on library usage, loan and collection statistics, reference enquiries as required by the school\xe2\x80\x99s Library Coordinator.

Housekeeping:

(r) Define collection and other functional areas with clear layout, directional and informative signage and guides;

(s) Ensure that the cleanliness and orderliness of all areas in the library, with advice and support from the Operations Manager;

(t) Ensure that library rules are enforced as specified in the college handbook; and

(u) Support and monitor the e-booking of discussion rooms and library venues by staff and students.

Other Duties:

(v) Support study programmes in the library should the library opening hours extend into the evenings; and

(w) Any other duties as assigned by the school with regard to the school library.

Requirements:
  • Skill: Excellent management of day-to-day operations of the library.
  • Skill: Good in the use of Spydus Library Management Solution to manage library collection and good in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience working as a Library Officer in national library or school library that is of secondary, tertiary educational level or its equivalent.
  • Qualification: Full GCE \xe2\x80\x98O\xe2\x80\x99 or \xe2\x80\x98A\xe2\x80\x99 Level Certificate or its equivalent
  • Skill & Experience: Good computer skills and experiences in using Office suite of products. (Spydus, Dewy Decimals)
  • Inventory check, weeding and also programs to encourage borrowing, books reviews
  • Revamp of library space for differentiated users eg: Teachers, Students, Cluster and Zonal activities. Constant change in the environment in the library to enthuse users and create a culture of learning in the library
  • Excellent management of day-today operations of the school library.
  • Working with teachers from various departments on using library space for competitions
  • Promoting the use of the Booker Prize for reviews by teachers (Experience of contractors personnel)
Contract Period: From 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024 (option to extend to 31 December 2025)

Salary: $1600 - $1700

Location: Yishun

Working Arrangement:
  • Mondays to Thursdays: 7:45am to 5:15pm
  • Fridays: 7:45am to 4:45pm,
inclusive of 1hr lunch break
  • Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
