Job Description


Overview

To drive clinical innovation projects as well as contract negotiation, clinical trial contract agreements and execution.

These projects include but not limited to new technology development and implementation, identifying potential IP and facilitating commercialisation activities as well as the negotiation and management of research collaborations with external partners. As part of the Innovation Transfer Office (ITO) this role will be responsible for stimulating an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship and supporting the commercial activities of companies collaborating with NUH by promoting and developing a strong brand for NUH innovation activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify unmet needs within NUH and actively scout for innovative ideas/projects from industry partners that can address the needs;
  • Facilitate discussions between clinicians and industry partners;
  • Work with clinicians and industry partners to manage project deliverables, map out innovation development pathways and commercialise ideas;
  • Negotiate terms as well as execute agreements for strategic partnerships, including research collaborations, clinical trials, Clinical Study and Investigator-Initiated Trials in consultation with legal office;
  • Assist in drafting policies governing technology transfer and industry/business development activities as well as national level framework and master agreements; and
  • Assist researchers with the interpretation and execution of grant terms and conditions as well as research compliance matters such as insurance, sponsorship, regulatory matters, clinical trial certificate applications, ethical issues and legal liabilities
  • Manage pipeline, and facilitate development of NPIs (New Product Introduction) / Innovation for test-bedding in NUH. New Product Introduction is a systematic process of taking a product from an ideated stage through research and development to launching it to the mass market with relevant IP creation. Work with project stakeholders to manage and track project deliverables and map out innovation development & commercialization pathways with the ability to scale up in mind;
  • Ensure effective communication with members of the Project Team is maintained to achieve project targets
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of the innovation landscape especially of collaborative research and grant funding opportunities;
  • Facilitate seamless communication between the Research Office, Data Protection Office, and different functions within Synapxe, fostering collaboration and ensuring effective information flow
  • Work alongside the Innovation Transfer Office and Haematology - Oncology Research Group to ensure that contracts align with legal and hospital standards. Verify compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to the development of contracts that meet ethical and legal standards.
  • The staff needs to balance the commercial urgency required by the industry partner with the reputational impact on NUHS;
  • Provide operational support to Innovation Transfer Office, offering guidance to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and contribute to on-time project delivery.
Job Requirements
  • At least Bachelor of Science. Other qualifications in IP law, Business or Entrepreneurship will be an advantage.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in Technology Transfer Activities including (1) facilitating Research Collaborations Agreements (2) Working knowledge of IP management, Licensing / Commercialisation activities (3) Project Management.
  • Experienced in working with tech transfer counterparts
  • Experienced in working with pharmaceutical companies
  • Experienced in drafting Clinical Trial Agreement (Sponsored or PI Initiated)
  • Experienced in working with multi stakeholders for Research Collaboration Agreement or Project Agreement for IHLs and PHIs.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work in a complex organisational environment, with a need to balance expectations of multiple stakeholders
  • Possess strong analytical skills
  • Able to tackle complicated research, regulatory and contractual issues;
  • Proficient in I.T. systems and MS Office applications;
  • Knowledge of legal contractual requirements in the context of research so that appropriate risk assessment and recommendations to senior management can be made in a timely manner; and
  • Harmonious and cooperative spirit as many negative decisions and delays have to be managed and conveyed to multiple stakeholders as well as external parties.
