Grab is at the forefront of integrating autonomous vehicle (AV) technology across its platform to enhance our mobility and delivery services. Our team works directly with world-class AV partners to ensure this technology is deployed safely, seamlessly, and efficiently, meeting the highest industry and regulatory standards for Southeast Asia. To achieve this, we are building a deep, in-house expertise in vehicle integration, testing, and hardware operations.
We are a senior, hands-on engineering group that prizes operational excellence, clear interfaces, and reproducible pipelines.
Get to Know the Role
As a Senior AV Test Engineer, you are the crucial technical bridge between our AV partners' technology and Grab's real-world operations. Your mission is to oversee the vehicle platform, lead our hands-on testing efforts, and ensure that the integrated system performs safely and reliably on Southeast Asia's roads. You will be our in-house expert on the vehicle, responsible for everything from hardware bring-up and diagnostics to implementing rigorous on-road test plans.
You will report to the Head of Engineering and work onsite in Grab One North, Singapore office.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Be the primary owner for the on-vehicle AV hardware suite provided by our partners, including drive-by-wire systems, sensors, and compute (ECUs). You will be responsible for system bring-up, maintenance, and diagnosing hardware-level issues.
• Lead the execution of rigorous test plans on proving grounds and in the field, running manoeuvre tests (like lane changes and emergency braking), failure mode checks and documenting results to validate the performance of the AV system.
• Develop the on-vehicle testing and diagnostics infrastructure, writing scripts and tools for logging, monitoring, and debugging complex hardware-software interactions in real-time.
• Work with our partners and safety teams to validate system performance, reproduce issues, and ensure the vehicle platform meets all functional and safety requirements.
• Support data operations for the testing fleet, managing data ingestion, upload to the cloud, and asset tracking to support validation and analysis.

Qualifications
What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Bachelor's or higher Degree in Robotics, EE, CS, or a related field, or 5+ years of equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with testing, integration, or systems engineering role for autonomous vehicles (AV), ADAS, or complex robotics systems.
• Hands-on experience with automotive hardware, including ECUs and networking protocols (e.g., CAN, Automotive Ethernet).
• Experience with vehicle dynamics and actuation systems (braking, steering, throttle).
• Familiarity with automotive safety standards and their impact on integration.
• Experience with on-vehicle debugging, diagnostics, and logging systems (e.g. flashing ECUs, debugging hardware/software interactions).
• Debugging and problem-solving skills in real-world, noisy environments.

A big plus if you have:

• Proficiency in Python, for scripting, diagnostics, and tooling.
• Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing methodologies.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX, Linux RT).
• Knowledge of sensor systems and data collection processes.
