The Trust, Identity, and Safety (TIS) team is the guardian of all our users on Grab. Our mission is to be the most trusted platform in the world for protecting individuals and businesses in the domain of fraud, risk, digital identity and safety. The data science team uses rich datasets to build AI solutions to solve these tough problems. We're a hands-on team involved in the entire modelling lifecycle, from data exploration and model development to production deployment and model refresh.
Get to Know the Role
As a Senior Data Scientist focused on Safety, you'll report into the Senior Data Science Manager and work onsite in Grab One North Singapore Office. You'll help build and deploy AI solutions designed to protect our users through both incident intervention and detection. You'll develop sophisticated models, leveraging a wide variety of data sources-including user behaviours, audio, and video-to accurately assess ride risk. You'll address these challenges by employing both traditional Machine Learning (ML) techniques and the reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Multimodal LLMs.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
You will:

• Architect and Own End-to-End Solutions: You won't just be given problems; you'll partner with product teams to frame them. You'll architect, design, and own the machine learning systems that solve critical business challenges, from initial concept to live production models.
• Build at Massive Scale: Design, train, and fine-tune state-of-the-art models, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-modal models, to analyse the situations during ride. Your work will be at the core of Grab's ability to operate safely.
• Productionize and Optimize: Take ownership of the full MLOps lifecycle. You will deploy your models into our high-throughput production environment, implement robust monitoring, and continuously iterate to improve performance, latency, and efficiency.
• Drive Innovation and Influence Strategy: Go beyond implementation. You'll research and prototype with the latest advancements in AI, translating cutting-edge academic research into tangible product impact. Your insights will directly influence product and policy decisions across Grab.
• Influence Through Clarity: Bridge the gap between our complex ML systems and business strategy. You'll explain technical concepts, model trade-offs, and experimental findings to stakeholders in product, policy, and operations, ensuring your work directly informs and influences their decisions.

Qualifications
What Essential Skills You Will Need
You have:

• A Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mathematics/ Statistics, or related technical disciplines.
• At least 3 years of experience in tech companies or academic institutions with a similar role.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, Spark, and SQL. Familiarity with version control systems such as git and git-flow, and an understanding of the full software development life cycle.
• AI & Deep Learning: Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Proficiency in traditional ML and Computer Vision (CV). Experience with audio, video, or LLM modelling, and edge model deployment is a plus.
