Economic success and corporate responsibility are inextricably linked as part of this process.Symrise \xe2\x80\x93 always inspiring more \xe2\x80\xa6Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer, SingaporeThis position is an individual contributor role that focuses on improving EHS culture and support EHS Management Systems, programs, procedures and processes to manage EHS risks in the organization. The incumbent will take up existing roles of Workplace Safety and Health Officer and Fire Safety Manager for the site. He/She will work closely with internal stakeholders from Production & Warehouse, Laboratories, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering and Offices. He/She will also represent Symrise as the site EHS professional and contact person to external agencies (NEA, MOM & SCDF etc.) regarding relevant regulatory EHS matters & compliances.The Position:

  • Function as the statutory role of certified Workplace Safety & Health Officer (WSHO) and the site representative to local authorities. Key duties as WSHO include:
o Conduct regular EHS inspections to identify and mitigate hazards and safety gaps at the workplace;
o Act as the deputy secretary of EHS committee for Symrise sites in Singapore;
o Organize and facilitate EHS promotional and training activities;
o Track and record the reporting to closure of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents and accidents.
  • Function as the statutory role of certified Fire Safety Manager (FSM) and primary point of contact with SCDF. Key duties as FSM include:
o Co-ordinate training and audits of in-house Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
o Facilitate relevant training to maintain operational readiness of our CERT;
o Plan and conduct site fire & emergency response drills;
o Identify and mitigate site fire safety hazards.
  • Provide operational hands-on EHS support to aforementioned internal stakeholders. Key duties include:
o Facilitate and enforce usage of site permit-to-work (PTW) system;
o Provide support in activity risk assessments and pre-start-up safety reviews;
o Enforce and facilitate usage of EHS Management-of-Change program;
o Deliver EHS coaching and training as required;
o Conduct EHS assessments and providing pragmatic EHS solutions and advice.
  • Provide first line response and support to any EHS incidents or emergencies, including reporting, investigation and follow-up actions with responsible area managers
  • Manage and support EHS permits application and renewal, including site Fire Certificate, Petroleum and Flammables Materials Storage Permit, ensuring these permits are always valid
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on various industrial hygiene program requirements, such as area & personnel industrial air monitoring, noise mapping etc
  • Manage site security team and ensure they perform to expected standard of service
  • Facilitate implementation of Symrise Safety Golden Rules and other EHS programs as assigned
  • Monitor and track EHS scheduled and compliance to-do items.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Degree in Environmental/ Health & Safety/ Chemical/ Engineering or related disciplines
  • A strong collaborator, with a high level of self-initiative and job ownership, ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Certified WSHO and Fire Safety Manager with at least 6-8 years of industrial EHS hands-on experience within a chemical manufacturing setting, chemical handling or have managed distribution of Dangerous Goods
  • Experienced in managing and implementing EHS programs. Ability to communicate and collaborate with varied level of Stakeholders on key aspects of EHS
  • Trained as an internal auditor for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 with strong familiarity in their requirements is preferred
  • Other relevant competencies including Management of Hazardous Substances, Confined Space Safety Assessor, Work at Height Manager, Lifting Supervisor etc. would be an added advantage
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
