What the role is:You will be part of the Law Editing and Revision Unit in the Legislation Division of the Attorney-General\'s Chambers which is responsible for providing - \xe2\x80\xa2 editorial services for the drafting of legislation, including checking of house-styles, formatting and language checks, fact checking, conducting policy and legal research, and legal checks, establishing and maintaining standard provisions, to ensure consistency and quality control across the Singapore Statute Book. \xe2\x80\xa2 simple legislative drafting and legislative advisory services to the Government and statutory authorities, and \xe2\x80\xa2 support in preparing revised editions for both Acts and subsidiary legislation.What you will be working on:Your job responsibilities include: 1. Coordinating and liaising between Government Ministries and statutory authorities, the law drafters, editors and publishers within the Division, and with the Government Printer to ensure timely and accurate publication of subsidiary legislation in the Gazette on a daily basis and synchronised publication on the online legislation database. 2. Provide professional and timely customer support in dealings with clients (internal and external) on subsidiary legislation publication requests and issues. 3. Perform basic editing tasks (i.e. grammar, spelling, format and punctuation) and proofreading of high volume of documents daily, using general and specialised software tools (bespoke electronic law drafting and database system) and by reading aloud with another team member. 4. Vet and draft simple subsidiary legislation and Government Gazette Notifications relating to instruments of Appointment, etc. 5. Provide direct editorial and administrative support to supervising officers and head of unit on a daily basis using bespoke electronic law drafting and database system. 6. Perform fact-checking (e.g. correct version, law-making authority, execution in accordance with legal requirements, date of publication and operation using bespoke electronic law drafting and database system). 7. Conduct simple legal research to verify the legal correctness of instrument intended for publication or revision Additionally, you will also be required, from time to time, to provide administrative and legal support services to the Division by undertaking a wide range of committee work and administrative projects and activities to ensure the efficient operation of the Division\'s activities and workplan.What we are looking for:Requirements: 1. Preferably at least 2 years of relevant working experience, such as experience in editing or publishing. Candidates with no prior experience are also welcome to apply. 2. Meticulous, thorough and with an eye for detail. 3. Strong analytical, critical thinking, editorial and proofreading skills. 4. Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. 5. Good command of the English language. 6. High level of initiative, self-motivated, with good organisational, project management and problem-solving skills. 7. A team player who is able to work independently as well as in a team. 8. Ability to multi-task, plan and organise work effectively ensuring deadlines are adhered to is key and critical. 9. Ability to work under pressure and extra hours at short notice when required (flexibility). 10. Good IT skills relating to the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat and web-based applications will be an advantage.
