DESIGNATION : Senior/ KAS Research Fellow (1-year contract), CAIDG

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Research Fellow will be expected to conduct research related to the “Pervasive Surveillance in Smart Cities: Regulation and governance of the public private interface” project, as appointed by the Centre Director and Konrad Adenauer Stifftung (KAS).
  • The Research Fellow, concurrently being the project manager for this research project, is required to handle all aspects of project management work related to this project. Administrative work is integral to this role and may involve the establishing of an international research network and the organizing of research round tables and research publications arising from the research. Specifically, the RF will liaise with our external partner KAS to ensure that each phase of the project is completed in the manner described in the project brief, and that the project timetable is maintained.
  • The Research Fellow may be required to organize relevant seminars, workshops, and meetings related to the project.
  • The Research Fellow will be required to supervise and settle the written research output from other project staff and to research and write in projects appointed by the Centre Director.
  • The Research Fellow will be required to report on a regular basis to the Project Management Committee concerning the development of key project phases.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD in Law or other relevant fields
  • The candidate should possess research experience in law and technology, particularly in legal, ethical and policy issues arising from the use of AI and mass data sharing, or any other social science discipline with research skills and training in methodology and policy, with a demonstrated record of research output in the form of refereed journal articles or conference papers, or other forms of research dissemination evidencing abilities to analyse and communicate.
  • It is desirable that the candidate have some understanding of smart cities research and in particular, the interface between public and private governance in smart cities.
  • High level writing and editorial skills are, therefore, required. At least a rudimentary understanding of information platforms, regulatory theory, and data access and usage concerns from a social science perspective.
  • An understanding of rule of law is an advantage.
  • An interest in comparative research in the relevant regional contexts is desirable. Project management skills will also be required in the form of evidence that the candidate has worked in similar research teams and at a similar level.
