We're seeking a

Senior Machine Learning Manager (M60)

to found and lead our new

GenAI Modeling & Innovation Forge

in Singapore. This team will act as a hub for advanced modeling, rapid prototyping, and applied research--driving the next wave of high-impact GenAI innovations across Atlassian.


Responsibilities:

Advance GenAI Modeling with Knowledge

Lead cutting-edge R&D in large language models, knowledge integration, and multimodal modeling. Define strategies to adapt and fine-tune foundation models for Atlassian's unique data and enterprise scenarios. Push forward the state of the art in applied generative modeling while balancing agility, quality, and scale.

Drive Innovation & Applied Research

Incubate and prototype high-impact innovation projects, from agentic workflows to knowledge-grounded assistants. Build proof-of-concept (POC) systems and pipelines, demonstrating new capabilities with rapid iteration. Partner with product and platform teams to transition successful prototypes into scalable, production-ready systems.

Build & Lead a Tiger Team

Hire, coach, and inspire an elite but high-leverage team of ML engineers and applied scientists. Foster a culture of bold experimentation, ownership, and collaboration across global teams. Create an environment where technical excellence, creativity, and speed of execution thrive.

Shape Strategy and Global Impact

Define the mission and roadmap for the Forge as a global hub for GenAI innovation. Collaborate closely with peers across Rovo, Jira Search, Knowledge AI, and Platform teams. Champion responsible AI, groundedness, and trustworthiness in all deployed models and prototypes.

Qualifications:

What We're Looking For

?

Experience

Extensive experience in ML/AI (generally 8+ years), including at least 3+ years managing ML or research teams. Strong track record of delivering ML-powered products or prototypes in production environments. Hands-on expertise in one or more of: large language models, search/retrieval, embeddings, knowledge graphs, or NLP. Experience leading applied research or innovation programs with tangible product impact.

Skills

Deep knowledge of GenAI ecosystems (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, OSS models) and fine-tuning/serving frameworks. Strong grasp of experimentation workflows, evaluation methods (e.g., groundedness, hallucination detection), and fast prototyping. Ability to balance scientific exploration with business impact, translating emerging capabilities into product opportunities. Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire teams across disciplines.

Education

Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field preferred--or equivalent industry experience.

Nice to Have

Experience building agentic systems or orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex). Familiarity with semantic search, hybrid retrieval, or enterprise knowledge systems. Background in multimodal modeling, evaluation benchmarks, or human-in-the-loop experimentation. Passion for cultivating new AI hubs and mentoring diverse, globally distributed teams.
