Job Description


:

  • Build the Gallery\'s Library & Archives collections and resources through collaborations with curators, artists, artist families, art collectors, archives and galleries in Singapore and the region
  • Maintain the digital and physical holdings of the archives, which includes fumigation, preservation & conservation care, digitisation, meta-data creation, accessioning, cataloguing and research
  • Work closely with colleagues across divisions and vendors to increase access of the Library and Archive collections
  • Oversee maintenance, updates and improvements of the Collection Management System, Website and Online Collections Search Portal (Library and Archives component)
  • Work closely with Head, team members and curators to identify, seek and evaluate potential acquisitions through donations and loans of material to Library & Archives
  • Project manage multiple digitisation projects in collaboration with team and curators
  • Develop and implement best practices and professional standards through ensuring proper guidelines/ SOPs and documentation of unit\'s functions and processes
  • Handle enquiries from curators or external researchers about the holdings of Library & Archives
  • Assist Head in developing sustainable strategies and policies for collection building, conservation, discovery and access of Library and Archives\' holdings
  • Steward financial processes and utilisation of budget
  • Develop resources, projects and programmes to promote access to archival collections
  • Train and supervise interns and volunteers assigned to the Library & Archives
  • Assist Head in developing and administering new programmes such as Research Fellowship and/or Artist Residency
Qualifications:
  • Degree in art history/ humanities / social sciences/ library or information sciences /conservation/ museum studies. Masters\' degree in any of the above is a plus.
  • Expertise and experience in using and managing archive and/or library databases
  • Strong interests and grasp of Singapore/Southeast Asian art or archives and archiving practices
  • 4 or more years of working experience in an archives or collections management or reference library role
  • Willingness to travel to Southeast Asia for the purpose of building up the archive
  • Expertise and working experience in the handling of archival materials would be advantageous
  • Effectively bilingual (i.e. able to conduct oral interviews and handle text in at least two languages); Fluency in Southeast Asian languages would be advantageous
  • Ability to supervise
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Good research, writing, communication, financial and administrative skills
  • Other skills: Microsoft Word, Excel
