DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Team (Enviro) team is critical to enabling the growth of the business and ensuring risk-based environmental compliance of AWS\'s global operations, including physical data centers, AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. One of Enviro\'s primary responsibilities is to design and implement AWS\'s global environmental compliance systems and technology. As a Senior Manager, you will have direct influence and will be engaging with all AWS internal teams to build and maintain scalable and effective environmental compliance strategies and plans that support AWS business objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, customer requirements and public commitments.

Key job responsibilities

• Leads independently and manages multiple environmental program teams across Americas, Europe/Middle East and Asia. Teams include those that cover environmental management systems, risk management, compliance assurance, digital solutions/technology, waste/circular economy etc.
• Manages significantly complex environmental compliance problems, decisions, and escalations. Mitigates risks created by complexity i.e., problems/efforts with visible and not-yet-visible risks, roadblocks, constraints, and many that conflict with each other. Makes trade-offs: opportunity vs. resources vs. sustainability.
• Sets vision, designs a strategy, and achieves consensus on priorities from a diverse and complex set of inputs. Aligns teams to deliver for customers. Creates scalable, long-term mechanisms.
• Uses significant expertise and high judgment to design the right team structures and mechanisms to meet long-term business goals.
• Communicates and drives strategic initiatives. Proactively identifies environmental compliance risks and opportunities. Creates business cases for long-term objectives, and resourcing.
• Drives operational, and cost efficiencies, flexible scaling models, critical event handling, optimizes resources (e.g., process path simplification or better cohesion, etc.). Creates best practices.
• Serves as a senior member of the Enviro leadership team, assisting the Director with the operational rhythm of the function, developing strategies, implementing programs, driving change and continuously improving.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Master\'s degree in Engineering, Sciences, or related field of study.
- 10+ years of experience in managing globally distributed/dispersed teams in North America, Latin America, Middle East, Europe, Africa, China, and India
- 10+ years of experience in managing complex environmental compliance initiatives and programs across functional teams, building processes that scale globally
- 5+ years of experience in managing site-level and multi-site level technical environmental compliance globally (e.g., waste, permits, air, management systems, compliance assurance, auditing)
- 5+ years of experience in developing and maintaining environmental management systems.
- Able to be hands-on and work independently
- Able to travel at least 30-40% as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- 15+ years of experience in multinational company environmental program development, deployment, implementation and verification.
- 15+ years of experience in environmental compliance in the cloud services infrastructure, energy, warehousing, manufacturing, construction and service industries.
- Certified Lean Six Sigma, Certified Lead Auditor ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)
