About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the Green Finance practice in Singapore to expand the Carbon Trust\xe2\x80\x99s engagement with financial institutions across Asia. This role is client-facing with a focus on the asset managers and asset owners that operate in Asia. In addition to developing business with clients in Singapore, Greater China and the rest of Asia, the role will have responsibility for supporting the growth of the existing Green Finance team in our Asia offices (Singapore and Beijing). Reporting to the Singapore Country Head, the successful candidate will be a key contributor to developing our understanding of how financial institutions can best identify, measure and manage climate risks and opportunities, and how financial instruments can unlock low carbon activities in Asia.

Although principally a business and proposition development role, the successful candidate will also lead or support project delivery teams, working closely with colleagues from across the Carbon Trust to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.

The Carbon Trust\xe2\x80\x99s Green Finance practice is global and serves a broad range of financial institutions, including banks, asset managers and asset owners (e.g. insurance companies). We support financial institutions in their efforts to understand how climate change affects their businesses \xe2\x80\x93 as well as how their activities impact the climate. We are independent experts who understand the environmental impacts, technologies and markets that underpin green asset classes. We leverage this bottom-up understanding to create bespoke solutions which help financial institutions deliver genuinely green outcomes in the real economy. Finally, we also support non-financial clients across both the public and private sector leverage green and sustainable financing solutions to accelerate their climate transitions.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be adept at developing new client relationships and deepening existing ones in pursuit of generating profitable revenue growth. Importantly, due to the cross-team nature of our projects, the person will be collaborative in his or her approach. The successful candidate will also play a key role in proposition development, identifying opportunities for the Carbon Trust to bring to bear its twenty years of experience in climate change mitigation in providing solutions for the challenges faced by financial institutions particularly in Asia.

  • Deliver insights and advice to prospective clients around green finance activities, including but not limited to: portfolio carbon footprinting; setting targets for financed emissions; implementing recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures; assurance and advisory services related to thematic bonds and loans; and transition finance advisory
  • Grow profitable revenues through proactive account management and by collaborating closely with colleagues in the successful delivery of green finance projects
  • Lead on proposition development for this dynamic market
  • Make prudent go/no go decisions for bids and projects, drawing on a good understanding of the Carbon Trust\xe2\x80\x99s capabilities and credentials to ensure that the best and full knowledge of the Carbon Trust is incorporated into proposals and deliverables
  • Provide quality assurance for bids and projects
  • Lead or support project delivery teams for Green Finance opportunities
  • Build a network within the financial sector; represent the Carbon Trust at relevant industry events and networking groups
  • Stay on top of market developments and develop thought leadership opportunities
  • Contribute to internal capacity building through effective knowledge management, training and coaching
Key skills we are looking for
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand client needs and requirements, build and maintain productive relationships, and influence decision making
  • Strong proposal writing and project management skills; taking ownership of activities to drive them forward to successful outcomes
  • Adept at problem solving, including bringing innovative ideas into client discussions and proposition development
  • Keen motivation to develop subject matter expertise and share knowledge with colleagues
  • Goal-focussed; tenacious in pursuing new business without losing sight of the Carbon Trust\xe2\x80\x99s values and principles
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment where collaboration across other business units is essential
Qualifications and experience
  • Degree educated (or equivalent), in a numerate discipline, e.g. finance, economics, statistics, engineering; master\xe2\x80\x99s level in a relevant specialism is desirable
  • Experience in the financial sector; prior experience working in or with asset managers and asset owners is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial services and products
  • Ability to understand and present complex products, with experience in delivering presentations
  • Experience in investment risk, climate risk, or ESG analysis is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in languages in addition to English is desirable
