About the roleWe are looking for a Senior Manager HSES and Operational Risk, Commercial to be responsible for developing Commercial\'s HSES and operational risks strategies, programmes of work, and managing their implementing, including ensuring a proper governance and the application of regulatory compliance frameworks.To be successful in the role you must be a strong leader, with proven ability to develop highly effective internal relationships and guide staff and external resources with demonstrated ability to collaborate well with multiple and varied business partners, providing through the team or external support, the technical oversight of the HSES and Ops risks activities.The approach towards HSES and Operational risks management framework will be based on a clear understanding of likelihood and impact of risks identified, assessed, discussed, mitigated and monitored at all levels of the Commercial organisation, as well as preventing and learning from our incidents and near misses broadly.This is a career defining role - we are looking for someone passionate about HSES to make a meaningful impact, and leading a team of regional highly motivated specialists. A key component of the role is the ability to drive a risk culture, collaborate with risk owners, areas of expertise and others, generate high levels of engagement towards the approach and management of HSES and operational risks throughout the Commercial organization and beyond. It includes as well HSES program related to travel and wellbeing of Commercial employees globally.The scope of this role is global facing, with multiple stakeholders. It will encompass developing a new strategy and then operationalising it. Lead and coach a globally dispersed high performance team
Where appropriate, acts as the lead investigator for any serious incident on project.
Acts as a HSES and operational risk assessment and mitigation expert
If required, lead preparation of studies and analyses of accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and contractors. Make recommendations to mitigate causes and to avoid occurrences.
Lead the development and implementation of targeted HSES and Operational Risk initiatives. Championing the safety culture and continuous improvement through building relationships with stakeholders at all levels across the business, identifying education and training needs and appropriate solutions.
HSES and Ops Risks Management
Ensure robust HSES and Operational Risks targets and metrics are in place, actively monitored and reported in accordance with agreed requirements.
Work closely with leadership, external affairs, communications and studies to ensure integration of commitments, identified risks, and strategy into overall business planning.
Build capability and oversee the management of Emergency Response, Medical Services and Security services across Commercial.
Participate in Audits including the Rio Tinto Safety Maturity Model Assessments (SMM) to ensure HSES and Leadership requirements are being met and findings communicated to appropriate personnel
Participate in Rio Tinto and Contractor key activities e.g. HAZID Workshops, Document Reviews, Mobilisation Reviews/Inspections, Business Resilience Plans and Business Continuity Assurance
Plan, implement and maintain HSES programmes (plans, systems, procedures, standards) to control risks and prevent incidents
Ensure business leaders and line managers feel well supported in their ownership and accountability for managing risks and implement HSES defined practices.
Leads, sponsors and conduct HSES and operational risk assessments and be involved in HSES and operational risk assurance projects as needed with other leaders to deliver on risk management objectives.
Identify, assess, and prioritize operational risks associated with our commercial business processes, including but not limited to commercial activities, marine shipping, logistics, warehousing et
Work with Risk Hubs and Risk AOE leaders to ensure that Commercial\'s governance structure HSES and Risk Management strategies and HSES and risk policy documents are in alignment
Provide regular updates and reports to the SLT on operational risk and HSE matters.
About you

Have an outstanding understanding of HSES and Ops risk management, within a large commodities and/ or supply chain environment and with experience in HSES matters, Critical Risk Management and Safety Maturity models
Knowledge of HSE regulations, industry standards, and risk management methodologies.
Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a team of different cultures and background
Have past experience of developing new strategy and executing on it, with a maturity of experience in driving change management
Experience in influencing stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to collaborate, motivate & engage diverse teams with or without direct line reporting.
Systems thinker, with strong execution ability and attention to detail.
Intellectually curious with a growth mindset.
Strong communicator and able to build highly functioning, engaged and mutually rewarding relationships.
Bachelor degree or higher in an Environmental, Safety or Health discipline, or a relevant combination of professional experiences
