What the role is:About Outward Bound Singapore - a division of NYC Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) is a member of Outward Bound International - a global network of Outward Bound schools operating in 34 countries. Established in 1967, OBS is recognised for its leading experience in outdoor education with more than 500,000 people trained. Our staff are highly qualified professionals with an affinity for the outdoors and passion for developing people. As a national training institution, our mission is to develop mentally and physically rugged youths to be active citizens inspired to serve the community. You will be part of the Operations Management team at OBS responsible for the performance and output of the OBS Operations Room that supports whole-of-OBS Operations. The operations room carries out the following functions in an integrated manner for both local and overseas based operations: o operations monitoring (e.g. environmental elements, progress of groups in the field) o tasks coordination (e.g. delivery of logistics) o incident response (e.g. emergency evacuations and recovery)What you will be working on:As Senior Manager (Operations Management), you will be rotated to perform various overnight / shift duties in fulfilling the above, where you will be expected to plan, coordinate and make decisions in an effective and efficient manner. A Senior Manager (Operations Management) is an instructional role within OBS. As such, you will be expected to play the role of instructor and facilitator for participants across various age range and profile type in multi-day OAE programmes both locally and overseas. You may be deployed for up 100 days, in fulfilment of both the instructional and operations room-based duties. Beyond duties, you will enhance the longer-term capabilities of the Operations Room and OBS Operations-at-large. Functions, include but are not limited to: o being a member, secretariat or lead for work groups, meetings and projects o developing standard operations procedures o performing role of investigating officer for incidentsWhat we are looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a field instructor and facilitator overseeing the safety and activity conduct for primary and/or secondary school students (or their equivalent) across multi-day programmes in Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) At least 2 years of experience in the following within the OAE sector o managing staff; or o overseeing daily operations management; or o developing operational policy and standard operating procedures Possesses the following proficiency levels (or their equivalent) in the relevant technical OAE competencies o Abseiling Proficiency Level 3 by Singapore Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (SSCMF) o Sport Climbing Certification Level 2 by SSCMF o Level 2 Practitioner Certification by Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) o Kayak Proficiency 3 Star by Singapore Canoe Federation (SCF) o Lifesaving Bronze Medallion by Singapore Life Saving Society (SLSS) o BizSafe Level 2 (Risk Assessment and Management Systems) Possesses a valid Powered Pleasure Craft Driving Licence (PPCDL) Applicants who have the following will be advantageous: o Experience in IT-related or project-management work o Experience in incident management o Knowledgeable and proficient in MS Office Applications Qualities that we are looking for in a Senior Manager o Able to work under pressure and meet tight timelines. o Resourceful, organised and able to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. o Meticulous with good analytical and numerical skills. o Excellent communication, writing, and collaboration skills - a team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross function teams. Additional requirements due to nature of work and workplace o Able to travel by sea without motion sickness to OBS, Pulau Ubin. o Able to perform operations and supervision beyond the usual working hours across OBS Campuses during occasions and/or when need arises. o Able to work from any of OBS' campuses / sites (e.g., Pulau Ubin, East Coast Campus, Punggol Reception, Changi, and OBS@Coney in the future).
