Job summary
Work hard and make history with Amazon's International Public Policy and Government Affairs Team. The Senior Manager, Tax, Southeast Asia, will join a growing and dynamic team that works across Europe, Middle East, Africa, India and Asia Pacific, in support of Amazon's global consumer and digital businesses. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, and non-governmental organizations across numerous policy issues spanning the consumer and commercial environment.
Key job responsibilities
The Senior Manager, Tax, Southeast Asia, will be an integral part of the International Public Policy's South East Asia team. You will help formulate and implement government engagement strategies for Amazon's indirect and corporate taxation policies with governments across the region. You will have an astute understanding of the public policy and regulatory environment for international taxation, as well as the key stakeholders within that environment. You will coordinate Amazon's engagement with relevant external stakeholders and coalitions and manage outreach to relevant in-country authorities.
You will work with cross-functional team members to facilitate high-level meetings for executives and business leaders with key policymakers, association executives, and other relevant stakeholders. You will be able to manage and drive complex projects, and provide clear and confident guidance, including in situations of high ambiguity. You will be a confident leader, but are also able to operate respectfully and collaboratively within wider regional and international structures.
You will work collaboratively with Amazon's Tax, Public Policy, Legal, and Business functions globally to support the public policy and advocacy agenda on indirect and corporate taxation initiatives and reforms. You will monitor and report relevant legislative and regulatory activity, develop positioning and mitigation/engagement strategies, draft collateral, and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.
The Senior Manager will be willing to travel internationally, based on business need.
  • An advanced degree in area of study relevant to the role.
  • Experience working at high level and collaboratively in a highly-matrixed environment, alongside teams including Tax, Legal, PR, and business teams.
  • Experience of public policy leadership in consumer-facing, technology or retail companies.
  • Project management experience.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • International tax experience.
  • A track record of highest integrity and public policy success.
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results.
  • Strong knowledge of and background in advocacy and public policy development pertaining to international taxation.
  • Knowledge of global frameworks related to direct and/or indirect taxation.
  • Able to identify and understand key technical tax aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
  • Able to coordinate a wide array of internal and external resources to obtain, process, and operationalize information and strategy.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Capable of confidently using experience and data to assess and recommend a best course of action even in an ambiguous situation.
  • Fluent in a Southeast Asian language.
