Contract Duration: Permanent About the team you are joining The role of the Senior Manager Traffic Forecasting, IATA Consulting, is to (i) drive business development initiatives, (ii) project-manage consulting engagements, (iii) contribute to the delivery of those engagements, and (iv) participate in the life of the Consulting practice. The position is based in Singapore with travel around Asia, and reports to the Senior Principal, IATA Consulting in charge of the Asia region, also based in Singapore. IATA Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s Traffic Forecasting offering in scope of the position includes, but is not limited to: Air passenger, air cargo, and air traffic movement demand forecasting studies tailored to an airport, province, country, or geographic region, including:

  • Identification and collection of air travel demand drivers, such as historical macroeconomic records sourced from IATA\xe2\x80\x99s data suppliers and other sources.
  • Performing statistical analysis to identify correlation coefficients between demand drivers and historical traffic sources from IATA\xe2\x80\x99s internal databases and client sources.
  • Modeling future traffic scenarios based on a combination of the statistical model, interviews with relevant stakeholders and capacity providers (incl. airlines, tourism agencies, etc.), and secondary research into relevant market trends, modal substitution, infrastructure development, proxy markets, etc.
  • Preparation and presentation of client-ready reports and executive presentations about the outcomes of the traffic modeling work.
Underserved air travel routes analysis and air services development studies aimed at identifying potential new air services for an airport or local/national authority, including:
  • Analyzing direct, indirect, behind, and beyond traffic at the target airport(s) using IATA\xe2\x80\x99s proprietary traffic databases to identify high-potential underserved routes.
  • Preparing business cases and presenting them as required to airlines that might be interested in starting a new air service.
  • Advising on mechanisms for inducing traffic, e.g., incentive packages.
The successful candidate is not expected to be proficient in all areas but should have a proven track record working in traffic studies in a consulting environment, including having advised clients in the air transport sector. The successful candidate will work closely with the existing IATA Consulting traffic forecasting team (based in Canada) and benefit from their guidance and methodology. What your day would be like The Senior Manager Traffic Forecasting, IATA Consulting is expected to:

Drive business development initiatives related to air travel demand consultancy services under light guidance from the Senior Principal, IATA Consulting in charge of the Asia region, or other leadership team members as necessary:
  • Monitor the release of consultancy tenders relevant to air travel demand.
  • Build and leverage executive relationships in the airport, airline, and government agency communities in Asia in order to proactively generate commercial opportunities for IATA Consulting.
  • Qualify opportunities by ascertaining the client\xe2\x80\x99s acceptability, need, budget, and buying intent; the project\xe2\x80\x99s scope and timeline; the competitive landscape and likelihood of success of the bid, etc. by following the IATA Consulting commercial standard procedure and with guidance from the leadership team as and when required.
  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals, including bottom-up budgets, using IATA Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s guidelines, templates, and leadership team guidance.
  • Prepare and attend client presentations of those proposals, with support from the leadership team as and when required.
  • Prepare Consulting contracts for those opportunities awarded to IATA Consulting, using IATA Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s guidelines, templates, and senior team guidance.

Lead and contribute to the delivery of Consulting projects, regionally in Asia but occasionally elsewhere in the world:
  • Supervise junior consultants, internal IATA subject matter experts, and/or external subcontractors in their delivery of discrete components of the project.
  • Contribute your own analysis, research, interviews, workshop facilitation, and written deliverables towards the delivery of the projects, including the development of Excel models and the preparation of PowerPoint presentations or Word reports.
  • Attend and facilitate client or other stakeholder meetings (e.g., progress meetings, steering committees) as and when required by the project.
Perform project management activities on Consulting projects, including:
  • Ensure adherence to the contractually agreed scope, timeline, and budget.
  • Manage junior consultants, IATA subject matter experts, and external subcontractors who may be assigned the project, and ensure their timely and quality contributions to the delivery.
  • Coordinate the contract variances, project extensions, invoicing milestones, etc. with the IATA Consulting Contract Officer supporting the project.
  • Report to, and seek advice, guidance, and peer review from senior team members as and when needed to ensure swift progress and sound methodological choices.

Contribute to the life of the Consulting practice:
  • Document each opportunity and project, incl. updating its status in the pipeline, uploading all deliverables to the share library, preparing credentials, seeking formal client feedback, etc. at the end of every assignment to ensure accurate reporting of IATA Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s commercial performance over time.
  • Feedback market intelligence to the Principal in charge of the definition of IATA Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s air travel demand offering.
  • Follow internal procedures including providing timely self-appraisals, timesheets, expense reports, etc. in accordance with IATA policies and Consulting procedures.
  • Proactively seek performance feedback and training.
  • Mentor junior members of the Consulting team as appropriate, conduct their annual or per-project performance appraisals, and participate in the recruitment process as a senior member of the Consulting team.

We would love to hear from you if
  • University degree (Bachelor required, Masters preferred) in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Air Transport, or similar degree.
  • No less than ten years of relevant experience, which must include management or technical consulting experience advising clients in the air transportation sector on market and forecasting studies.
  • Experience working on consulting proposals and client presentations in the context of a reputable consulting firm, incl. ability to story-board and structure hypotheses, observations, findings, conclusions, and recommendations in a client-ready format.
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to use visualization software (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) and use a high-level programming language for data analytics and charting (e.g., Python, R) a plus.
  • Impeccable oral and written English communication skills. Knowledge of a main Asian language a plus.
  • Strong analytical, first-principle, critical thinking, business-oriented mindset.
