We're looking for a Senior Privacy Counsel to join our APAC Legal team in Singapore!

What the day will look like

  • Review and negotiate privacy and data protection terms with clients and vendors, including GDPR addendums.
  • Provide counsel on data breach investigations and management of breach response, including notification obligations.
  • Provide advice on international data transfers and the necessary data transfer arrangements.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments on new products and initiatives. Advise and assist Business Units with the implementation of recommendations to minimum privacy risks.
  • Managing privacy projects, which includes but is not limited to:
    • assessing and closing privacy compliance gaps in countries;
    • complying with new and emerging privacy laws; and
    • the implementation and adoption of privacy technology into Aon’s business units.
  • Provide counsel on a wide variety of data privacy matters, including government requirements, industry and client requirements, and best practices.
  • Act as subject matter expert for privacy laws and regulations in the APAC region, as well as being the regional expert within Aon on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and various jurisdictional privacy regulations.
  • Identify business and compliance risks; provide support and advice to mitigate risks and ensure appropriate reporting.
  • Support and drive the development of tools to enable the business to embed appropriate data privacy protections into new and existing projects and offerings.
  • Support and drive the data privacy training and awareness program.
  • Support efforts to implement and enhance Aon’s privacy program. Perform privacy program oversight where needed, including performing private impact assessments.
  • Work with privacy subject matter experts and business stakeholders to continuously improve the privacy risk & control framework.
  • Produce & update, draft and communicate privacy statements, privacy notices, website disclosures, and/or mobile disclosures.
  • Participate in various committee meetings and meetings with senior leadership to update on the privacy compliance programmes and explain identified privacy risks and potential business impact in APAC.
  • Collaborate with Legal, HR, Procurement, and other senior leaders on privacy-related matters.
  • Collaborate with the Global Privacy Team staff, including both attorney and non-attorney contributors.
  • People management of APAC Privacy Team.
  • Support Law and Compliance Team on various ad-hoc projects.

Skills and experience that will lead to success
  • At least 10 – 15 years of privacy and legal/compliance experience, preferably within the insurance/financial services/professional services industry.
  • Experience providing advice regarding new data privacy and protection laws in various jurisdictions in Asia-Pacific, confidentiality obligations, privacy rights, policies and procedures, privacy impact assessments.
  • Experience providing advice on international data transfers and storage.
  • Experience providing advice on data breach investigation, responses and remedies.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory bodies
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) accreditation preferred.
  • Proven ability to win confidence and credibility with senior leaders and clients.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. You can work independently but also like to be part of a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a professional setting, including leading the Asia-Privacy team.
  • High level of self-direction and sound judgment.
  • Ability to provide practical, timely solutions to business partners, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
