Senior Research Fellow (severe Accident Simulation) Snrsi

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

NUS Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative (SNRSI) is seeking to hire a researcher to study severe accidents involving nuclear reactors. This position will have an emphasis on simulations involving reactor thermal hydraulics and reactor physics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct creative research in the field of severe accident simulation using ASTEC or MELCOR code to perform the safety analysis of small modular light water cooled reactors, particularly on the passive core, containment cooling and residual heat removal systems
  • Investigate and develop tools to simulate the two-phase flow instability phenomena for the passive cooled safety system
  • Perform passive cooled small modular reactor core heat transfer and critical heat flux research
  • Contribute to the in-house subchannel code development for the water cooled small modular reactor thermal hydraulics modelling
  • Develop and assess the critical heat flux correlations for passive cooled small modular reactor
  • Develop simulation tools and carry out the steam generator thermal hydraulics modelling
  • Usage of other codes and tools wherever necessary to perform the intended scientific analyses of fundamental fluid dynamic phenomena
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and technical reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • A PhD degree in physics, nuclear engineering, fluid mechanics or related disciplines
  • Minimal 5 years of postdoctoral research or work experience with expertise in simulation studies
  • Competency in thermal hydraulic and multiphase fluid dynamic modelling
  • Familiarity with the severe accident analysis code MELCOR, ASTEC or Relap5 and subchannel analysis code is essential
  • Knowledge of nuclear reactor engineering and safety analysis, in particular for small modular light-water cooled reactor
  • Experience in programming (e.g. in FORTRAN, C++ or Python) and in related experimental work would be an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • The candidate should be creative, capable of productive research, and can work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
