Paratus Sciences (www.paratussciences.com) is a biotech startup dedicated to improving human health by translating unique insights from bat biology. We see bats as nature's blueprint for resilience against disease, having evolved to control inflammation, tolerate viral infection, resist cancer, and live exceptionally long and healthy lives. These extraordinary traits provide a unique map to unlock novel targets for critical human diseases. We have developed proprietary tools and methods to understand these extreme biological attributes, and we are now building a powerful discovery engine to identify and develop novel therapeutics based on these insights. Our initial programs target key areas of unmet need, including inflammation & immunology (I&I) and cardiometabolic disorders, as we work to address some of the most challenging health issues facing humankind.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Scientist in Singapore to build and lead our phenotypic screening capabilities. This critical role will support target prioritization and enable Go/No-Go decisions for target validation by translating novel computational predictions into robust biological data. You will own the strategy and execution of our functional genomics workstream, and lead the generation of proprietary experimental data that, in close collaboration with Computational Biology, will be integrated to continuously refine our AI engine. This role will involve hands-on lab work, as well as designing and overseeing outsourced projects at specialist CROs and academic partners. We seek a committed and collaborative team member who will thrive in our dynamic culture.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement a comprehensive strategy for phenotypic screening to functionally assess novel targets, support prioritization, and enable Go/No-Go decisions for target validation.
Own the strategy and execution of the functional genomics workstream, including the deployment of advanced cellular assays and large-scale screens in relevant disease models.
Identify, qualify, and manage relationships with specialist CROs and academic collaborators to execute complex screening campaigns (e.g., high-content imaging, functional genomics).
Lead the development of internal assay capabilities to support the full validation workflow, from initial target triage to downstream mechanistic studies.
Serve as a key interface with Computational Biology, leading the generation of proprietary experimental data and ensuring its seamless integration for the continuous refinement of our AI engine.
Stay abreast of scientific literature and emerging technologies to inform our discovery strategy and platform development.
Analyze and document experimental data in an electronic laboratory notebook in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with the company's quality management system.
Qualifications and Skills:
PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
5+ years of post-doctoral experience, preferably with at least 3+ years in a biotech/pharma industry setting.
Proven track record of designing, executing, and interpreting results from high-throughput cellular screens and functional genomics campaigns.
Experience managing outsourced research projects with CROs, including SOW development, budget oversight, and timeline management.
Direct, hands-on experience with arrayed or pooled CRISPR-based functional genomics screens.
Experience with high-content imaging and analysis techniques, particularly Cell Painting.
Familiarity with working in an AI/ML-driven discovery environment and collaborating closely with computational biologists.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence cross-functionally.
Experience in a startup or small biotech environment is highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Team player with a positive, proactive, can-do attitude.
