Senior Sustainability Planner/ Manager

Job Description

UWCSEA has a vacancy for a Senior Sustainability Planner/ Manager position.
Reporting to the Head of Operations and Facilities (Dual) this role facilitates the development of sustainable operations at UWCSEA. This role promotes technical and behavioural change, alongside active engagement in sustainability. A key objective is to create meaningful opportunities for campus users and visitors to participate in low-carbon and environmental sustainability efforts through initiatives led by the Operations and Facilities Departments. They develop and implement initiatives in support of energy conservation and waste reduction, including direct interaction with student groups to help optimise UWCSEA's potential for recycling, energy efficiency, waste reduction, local and organic food and other procurement, carbon emission reduction and sustainable design, construction, and deconstruction.
Main Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of long-term strategies for energy and water conservation, including benchmarking targets and cost reduction programs.
  • Analyse campus operations to identify opportunities for energy and water savings, incorporating innovations and renewable energy adoption.
  • Build external networks to secure funding and sponsorships for sustainability programs and ensure alignment with UWCSEA's educational goals and policies.
  • Provide regular updates to internal and external stakeholders on the effectiveness of energy management initiatives, positioning UWCSEA as a leader in energy management among international schools.
  • Support the development and implementation of the College's ESG Reporting process
  • Support the implementation of an international reporting standard, such as GRI, to support the above
  • Support the implementation of specific metrics and measuring tools to support the above
  • Pursue and maintain key certifications, including Watermark GOLD (PUB), SS 577 Water Conservation Grade, Green Mark Platinum SLE, other sustainability related certs and WELL Building for each campus.
  • Ensure compliance with Singapore Government regulations and UWCSEA policies on energy conservation and sustainability.
  • Identify and support applications for suitable sustainability and ESG related external awards
  • Support energy contract negotiations and develop cost-effective budgets for energy conservation measures.
  • Recommend and implement policies for energy-efficient maintenance and equipment upgrades, working closely with suppliers and technical teams.
  • Oversee design and construction activities to ensure energy and water efficiency considerations are integrated into all projects.
  • Participate in development of tender specifications and evaluation as a sustainability subject matter expert
  • Provide campus annual utilities budget
  • Support budget forecast for any sustainability related projects
  • Responsible for compiling, maintaining, and filing all utilities reports, billings, and other documents as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of renewable energy systems and critical infrastructure.
  • Support facilities teams in optimising HVAC and other energy or water-consuming systems, providing training and improvement plans where necessary.
  • Manage energy data reporting and develop programs for stormwater and non-potable water management.
  • Promote sustainable practices through staff and student engagement
  • identify opportunities for curriculum-aligned campus case studies, develop teaching materials and deliver lessons
  • Support the various College programs, fostering effective community and staff participation in sustainability and related initiatives.
Person Specifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Sustainability, or an equivalent field, with a focus on facilities management, air conditioning, and energy conservation
  • Preferred certifications:
  • Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM)
  • Green Mark Professional (GMP or GMPFM)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy management, mechanical systems design, construction, operations, maintenance, or related fields.
  • Experience in an energy management solutions company is preferred
  • Experience in a similar role in an educational organisation an advantage
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage all stakeholders.
  • Service-oriented with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Data driven, highly analytical, with a keen eye for detail.
