Read more about NIE here . NIE invites applications for Senior Technical Specialist position in the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Group (NSSE AG). Responsibilities They key role of the Senior Technical Specialist is to take care of different aspects of the teaching and research facilities, thereby ensuring the smooth and efficient running of laboratory operations, including the safety of laboratory users. Key responsibilities are:

• Provide technical support for pre-service and post-graduate, in-service lab classes and research work.
• Maintain and conduct troubleshooting for lab instruments/equipment.
• Scientific knowledge in the working principle of selected analytical instruments, such as NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, Elemental Analyzer, GC/GCMS, Fluorescence Spectrometer, UV-vis, FT-IR, ICP-OES, AAS, etc, is desirable.
• Willingness to learn the operation and safety protocols of the selected instruments listed above.
• Ensure laboratory sessions are properly set up, i.e. equipment and consumables are properly prepared.
• Plan and budget for the assigned chemical instrument maintenance, equipment upgrading, spare accessories and consumables.
• Ensure laboratory instruments are in good working condition and maximize their lifetime.
• Ensure adherence of safety procedures in the chemistry laboratories.
• Purchase of chemicals and equipment for chemistry teaching laboratories and academic staff members holding research grants.
• Perform any other duties, e.g. in other science laboratories, as assigned by the reporting officer and Management team of NSSE Academic Group.

Requirements

• A University Degree. BSc (Chemistry) or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year related working experience in a science or related environment.
• Experience in providing technical support to students in higher education will be an added advantage.
• Good knowledge and hands-on experience of handling chemicals, and scientific analytical instruments/equipment in an academic/industrial environment.
• High level of safety awareness.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and effectively in a team.
• Hard working, self-discipline, responsible, committed.
