The Team will translate early concept directions into fully developed, optimised & validated solutions to make at high volume for the next generation of Dyson products.
About the role
Development of novel Cell technology comes with new and highly challenging manufacturing processes. You will join a team of technical specialists and work alongside these highly talented and creative individuals to fulfil our endeavors in researching and developing energy storage technologies. To meet Dyson\'s growing energy storage requirements, your focus will be the production of prototype cells and you will be involved in the end-to-end process from chemical processing and roll-to-roll coatings, through preparation of materials and components, to the hands-on assembly of prototype cells using a combination of manual and automated processes.
Support small scale prototype builds of battery cells for testing and characterisation, enabling the development of our next generation processes, equipment and products.
Responsible to arrange consumables, tools, jigs/fixtures etc. to support build, testing activities.
Undertake equipment commissioning and maintenance under the guidance of Dyson engineers and/or vendors.
Perform tooling and parts change of equipment as and when required.
Support trial waste consolidation and preparation for collection by vendor.
Ensure all relevant documents; process, trial history including data records and methodology are updated as required.
Work with Engineer to perform periodic preventive and corrective maintenance such as cleaning equipment to ensure that equipment continues to perform reliably.
Work with Engineer in developing and implementing SOP, test and characterisation methods.
Assist Engineer in performing DoEs to drive process optimisation and continuous improvement efforts, including consolidating and summarising of data for review.
Be responsible for process control checks, quality, from traceability to test and characterisation.
Any other adhoc duties as and when assigned by superior.
Ability to work sensitively, discretely, and effectively across Dyson.
About you
Experience / Requirements:
Minimum Diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or physical science discipline.
Practical experience of working within battery, electronics, assembly industries
Good knowledge of electrical, mechanical & pneumatic systems
Experience with servo motors, Robot, PLC and HMI software will be an advantage
Ability to read and understand mechanical & electrical schematics diagrams.
Practical experience with strong sense of health, safety and environmental responsibilities and requirements within a chemical environment.
Strong problem-solving skills exemplified by the ability to diagnose and rectify problem.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Good written and verbal communication.
Ability to work independently as well as in a group effectively, including flexibility and adaptability working with cross-functional teams.
Able to work in cleanroom environment; wearing jumpsuits, and safety shoes.
A self-motivated team player with can-do attitude.
Must demonstrate a passion for working for Dyson.
Desirable:
Appreciation of relevant Battery technology or battery products across the industry.
Willing to work in a start-up environment.
Knowledge of lean six sigma tools, basic statistical principles and software e.g. Minitab/JMP.
