Senior/assistant Director (climate Change & Sustainability), Industry Division

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

What the role is:

Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time. It is a complex global challenge that calls for concerted international action and collaboration between governments, industry and individuals. Singapore, as a low-lying city state, is vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Hence, we have to work together with the international community to address climate change and build a climate resilient future. At MTI, we seek to pursue sustainable development by balancing economic needs with environmental protection and social inclusion. We believe that the pursuance of economic growth can be compatible and mutually reinforcing with environmental objectives. We also seek to drive the development of the green economy, by developing the strategic direction and policy levers to support our businesses in adopting green solutions and capturing green economic opportunities both locally and overseas. MTI\'s Climate Change and Sustainability (CC&S) team in the Industry Division (ID) works with other agencies such as NCCS, MSE, and MOF, to formulate and coordinate policies and strategies to ensure that Singapore is prepared for the impact of climate change, on both the domestic and international fronts. CC&S also coordinates and drives efforts to seize new opportunities and create good jobs for Singaporeans in the green economy. The transition to a low-carbon and green economy will be especially challenging for Singapore, given our scarce natural resources and open economy. MTI\'s CC&S team plays a critical role in charting the path forward for our transition, and is looking for driven, capable and committed individuals to join our team.
