What the role is:
MTI's Energy and Carbon (E&C) Cluster leads initiatives to reduce emissions and drive the transition to a low-carbon power and industry sector. This would be key for us to continue growing Singapore's economic headroom as well. Officers working within E&C are tasked to develop carbon markets, plan energy infrastructure, develop low-carbon energy sources, and manage emission trajectories and carbon budgets. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to support sustainable economic transformation and green growth through international trade and industry partnerships. The New Energies team sits within the E&C Cluster, and takes the lead in: o Developing, implementing and monitoring various alternative energy sources for Singapore, including solar, hydrogen in its various forms, bioenergy, advanced geothermal and advanced nuclear, as well as other promising low-carbon technologies. o Devising new policies to ensure that new energy solutions can be productively deployed and scaled sufficiently to help meet our 2050 net zero goals. o Overseeing issues relating to energy and industry decarbonisation Research & Development in Singapore. This could also entail the development of new climate technology pilot funding scheme, working directly with global climate tech solution providers, academics, and investors.
What you will be working on:

• Lead and coordinate cross-agency efforts to assess the feasibility of nuclear energy deployment in Singapore. o Develop policies and strategies to build capabilities that will enable the safe, secure, and sustainable use of nuclear energy, if a decision is made to adopt nuclear energy. o Monitor international developments in nuclear energy and assess their implications for Singapore o Engage with international nuclear energy ecosystem, such as regulators, national laboratories, nuclear industry companies and consultants, to track the latest developments in nuclear energy and explore capability building partnerships with these entities. o Develop and implement communications and engagement plans with regard to Singapore's nuclear energy policies

What we are looking for:
We are looking for matured, driven, self-aware, coachable and capable individuals who possess a strong desire to contribute and directly enable Singapore's energy transition, thrive in a fast-moving environment across organisational boundaries and geographies, have a strong interest in alternative energy technologies and policies, and are equipped with the following qualities and competencies: o Experience in policy review and formulation o 0 to 9 years of relevant experience. Sustainability and energy-related fields, or engineering or science background are a plus. o Strong written and verbal communication skills. o Strong analytical skills, with quantitative analytical skills as a strong advantage o Ability to pick up new content areas quickly, and assimilate knowledge from a wide variety of sources to provide policy recommendations o Demonstrated experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, both within and beyond the public service, which requires strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. o Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team o Be driven, meticulous and resourceful o Open to travel occasionally for official duties
