What the role is:
To give legal advice to less privileged Singaporeans in their civil matters.
What you will be working on:
(a) To provide legal advice in a range of civil matters, including family matters such as divorce, probate / letters of administration, adoption, maintenance, mental capacity proceedings, personal protection order proceedings, custody proceedings, monetary claims, negligence claims etc. Specifically, to give legal advice as a duty officer, as assigned, for 5 half-days a week (b) To mentor others in (a), after acquiring sufficient expertise (c) As part of (a) to refer applicants to counsellors, the police, Family Service Centres or other departments/authorities and to work with such third parties in the applicant's interests, if the need arises (d) To assist in updating and upkeeping LAB's knowledge management system concerning legal advice matters
What we are looking for:
An ideal candidate should possess the following: Work Experience o At least 2-3 years in civil and family litigation whether in private practice, or in Legal Service Competencies [Legal skills] 1. Advisory skills 2. Client management skills 3. Legal knowledge, analysis and research skills in civil matters Fluency in one of the national languages other than English is an advantage. [Leadership and management skills] 1. People and communication skills 2. Ability to work well with others in a team 3. Time management skills Personal Traits o Passion to help the less privileged, compassion for the less fortunate o Community spirited - friendly, sociable, puts the team before self The successful candidate will be appointed on a 2-year contract.
