Job Description

Objectives of this Role:

Design, develop, and secure backend infrastructure using modern PHP frameworks (Laravel/Symfony). Ensure API reliability, security, and scalability to support growing user traffic and new feature development. Contribute to system architecture, code quality, and compliance with cybersecurity and data protection standards (e.g., PCI DSS, ISO 27001).

Responsibilities:

Develop secure and optimised APIs and backend logic using PHP. Create and manage relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), including schema design and complex query optimization. Implement and maintain secure session handling, input validation, encryption, and access control mechanisms. Conduct unit and integration tests (PHPUnit) and participate in peer code reviews. Work with DevOps engineers to support containerization (ocker) and CI/CD pipelines. Maintain technical documentation, API schemas, and compliance-related audit logs. Integrate external services via RESTful APIs and develop internal services for data exchange. Contribute to incident response processes, backend security audits, and log integrity checks. Stay updated on PHP ecosystem trends, OWASP practices, and backend security frameworks.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Proficient in PHP 8+, Laravel or Symfony, and Composer package management. Strong understanding of REST API design, secure backend architecture, and SQL performance tuning. Familiarity with PSR standards, Git, and code versioning workflows. Knowledge of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities and how to mitigate them in PHP applications. Experience working in a collaborative environment with attention to clean, maintainable, and well-documented code. Comfortable working in Agile or DevSecOps environments.

Bonus Skills:

Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, or NoSQL (MongoDB). Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/GCP. PCI DSS project experience or ISO 27001 controls implementation. Exposure to payment systems, digital wallets, or regulated fintech environments.
