Job Description


We have a great opportunity for a Specialist, Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) to join Michelman at Singapore site. You will implement environmental, health and safety programs to ensure compliance with established policies, legal requirements and EHS certifications. You will be responsible for conducting associate training, coordinating inspections of plants and labs for potential hazards, assisting in incident investigations, and maintaining local required record keeping. You will be responsible for supporting the Manager, EHS in coordinating the environmental regulatory programs and its permitting applications, along with being a backup. You will play an essential role in raising safety awareness and building a sustainable safety-first culture at Michelman.

Primary Responsibilities

Execute health and safety programs at Michelman to drive a safety-first culture
  • Facilitate incident investigations including conducting root cause analysis and identifying potential corrective and preventative actions
  • Conduct audits of programs and procedures to ensure we are operating at our best and be a visible presence to all associates
  • Evaluate PPE requirements and work with team to properly manage hazards
  • Coordinate transitional, return to work evaluations and strategies
  • Perform training needs and hold training sessions for new associates and refresher training for existing associates
  • Assist in administering and maintaining compliance programs such as LOTO, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Hot Work, Respiratory Protection, etc.
  • Review and approve new chemicals and new products within the chemical/approval system
  • Lead projects and drive efforts to resolve environmental, health, and safety issues, corrective actions, continuous improvements, and related tasks
  • Facilitate Site Safety Committee meetings and communicate employee/management concerns, soliciting team participation in resolutions
  • Develop EHS Key Performance Indicators for the site with the EHS Manager in order that EHS performance can be measured and assessed
  • Support the EHS Manager in development and improvement of all necessary core EHS programs to ensure compliance with sound EHS practices and meeting all compliance requirements

Support environment programs for our sustainability targets and legal compliance
  • Maintain and perform required inspections for the SPCC and SWPPP program
  • Manage wastewater permit and submit documentation and reports as needed
  • Collect data and input environmental metrics

  • Additional EHS functions, as assigned by Manager, EHS

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in areas of safety program development, training, implementation and management
  • Proficient knowledge and use of standard Windows programs (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE and have an active presence in all US Michelman office, lab and plant facilities
  • Work within a team environment to support and achieve goals and objectives relating to EHS
  • Physically able to sit/stand for extended periods of time, bend/stoop, walk, lifting of up to 40 lbs.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s in Science/Engineering, or EHS field (preferred). Significant experience and/or skills without degree will warrant consideration
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Prefer 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, chemical or process manufacturing preferred
  • Ability to sit for EHS certification, e.g. CIH, CSP, SMS, OHST (preferred)
