About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Maritime Commercial (Container Freight) to join the Maritime Supply Chain team in Singapore, reporting to the Head of Maritime Enterprise, as part of BHPs broader Commercial organisation.

BHP transports bulk and containerised cargo across our global supply chain, delivering goods in to our operations and exporting our commodities out to our customers world-wide. The success of our business relies on a safe supply chain that delivers commercially and operationally superior performance.

This role is based in Singapore and is responsible for supporting the commercial and operational supply chain delivery of sustainability and productivity objectives for the BHP Maritime team, to deliver optimised maritime solutions for BHPs supply chain.

The successful candidate will be commercially astute, with supply chain expertise from within the container freight and/or logistics industry preferred. They will:

  • Demonstrate a passion for sustainability and carbon abatement supply chain solutions and have an appetite for technology and data-driven process improvement.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the BHP Charter and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of and adherence to all relevant compliance policies in order to facilitate meeting BHP and external legislative, reporting, governance and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrate a capability set aligned to a culture of care, trust and performance.
  • The ideal candidate is a self-starter and can deal with high-pressure situations and ambiguity.
Key Accountabilities

Safety & Sustainability
  • Demonstrates and instils an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development, specifically related to the maritime industry.
  • Awareness in vessel vetting requirements through global organisations such as Rightship.
Commercial acumen
  • Exposure across a logistics chain and/or container freight network within a shipping line, freight forwarder or logistics commercial or operational position.
  • Engagement and management of key stakeholders (including internal customers and cargo suppliers) ensuring exceptional service level delivery and commercial value.
  • Supports with account management of key container freight providers ensuring superior safety, operational and commercial outcomes.
  • Supports with maritime commercial supply chain strategy development, reporting and budget management.
  • Supports the optimisation of the Maritime P&L using technology/software solutions to deliver value for BHP.
  • Translates market information, indices and knowledge into value generating strategic freight positions to optimize supply chain outcomes.
  • Be strategically aware of industry regulatory events and impacts.
  • Has an understanding of the freight industry supply chain dynamics, and can identify optimisation levers to improve safety, sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with BHPs regional offices, Assets and Maritime teams as well as shipping liners through to supporting customer and/or supplier interfaces, to provide optimal and cost effective supply chain solutions.
  • Interfaces with maritime operations team to ensure smooth supply chain execution and commercial outcomes.
  • Demonstrates keen external strategic relationship management with outstanding project management skills.
Risk management
  • Demonstrates understanding of inherent industry and supply chain risks (safety, operational and commercial) with an awareness of risk management tools and processes.
About You
  • Bachelor degree in Economics, Engineering, Shipping, Supply Chain or Business.
  • Experience & Technical Competencies
  • 5+ years working experience in commodity markets, shipping or supply chain logistics industries.
  • Industry experience in logistics, 3PL or shipping line roles.
  • Knowledge of freight markets and operations.
  • Languages - Fluent in English.
