About the role:

• Review (with calculations) the Contractor's design, supervise and co-ordinate all aspects of temporary and permanent works for the mining works including trenchless construction methods. He / she will be required to carry out the supervision work in accordance with the Building Control Act and the Authority's requirements. He / she has to ensure that the construction is carried out in accordance with the design, all relevant standards, contract specifications, approved method statements, safety requirements and to the agreed programme.
• Required to exercise their professional experience and judgement to ensure that the safe and proper construction methods are being adopted to carry out the mining construction.
• Prepare and develop detailed supervision schedule and comprehensive checklist for the conduct of the inspection and supervision by himself / herself, and the Specialist Mining Inspector (SMI).
• Prepare and develop detailed Safety Inspection schedule and checklist for the excavation and construction activities for the mining construction.
• Review and check the construction drawings, method statements and construction sequence for all aspects of the temporary and permanent works of the mining construction, modification proposals to the design and construction methods and to advise on necessary amendments.
• Review and check all contingency measures and their application and decision structure, including all rectification proposals.
• Supervise every stage of the mining construction, including all excavation, shotcreting, installation of support / stabilising elements, casting of concrete and all other works to achieve the full completion of the tunnel, in a safe manner.
• Monitor and interpret the visual / physical conditions of the mining work and assess the potential risks and deviations from the design intent and method statements. To immediately alert the Engineer on the potential risks and all deviations with clear assessment of the courses of actions and implementation of the contingency measures.
• To monitor and assess the instrumentation results, and implement/instruct the execution of the various courses of action when the control levels are exceeded.
• Report to the Engineer on the daily progress of excavation and the instrumentation monitoring records, deviation of the ground encountered from expected profile, and to alert Engineer on change in physical / visual condition of tunnel.
• Report to the Engineer on the daily assessment of the conditions of the mining construction works, assessment of the potential risks and remedial measures/contingencies implemented.
• Give presentations to all staff (Client) at regular time periods on the various construction activities, and to assist in the presentations to Client's Management on mining construction works.
• Create a process to provide training, guidance and mentoring of the Client' engineers and site supervisors attached to the mining construction works.
• Prepare a report to preserve the knowledge and experience gained from the project, addressing all aspects of the mining construction and making recommendations for future improvements.

About you:

• Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in supervising box tunnels that are in close proximity to existing bored tunnels and MRT station, trenchless construction methods such as micro-tunnelling, front jacking, simple faceless tunnelling, mining methods or box jacking methods, etc. and/or of similar level of complexity in the Civil Contract
• Willing to work on shift (including night shift)
• Degree in Civil Engineering recognized by BCA/IES/ACES
• Must be a registered and practicing Resident Engineer for the past 5 years.
