About the roleBauxite and Alumina (B&A) is accountable for Rio Tinto\'s worldwide activities related to bauxite mining and refining into smelter-grade alumina. The business unit employs approximately 6,000 people (incl. JVs, excl. contractors) in ten countries and owns and/or operates five bauxite mines and four smelter-grade alumina plants. B&A is a recognized leader and supplier of alumina refinery technology and has an extensive project pipeline which includes the expansion of operations in Australia and potential future development in many other countries.The B&A Commercial Division is accountable for sales of 11 million mt of alumina sales per annum (5 million mt are external sales) and 6 million mt alumina purchases, and 60 million mt bauxite sales. We are looking for a Specialist, S&OP (Bauxite & Alumina) Pacific who is to be a key member of the team that run and administer the sales and operational planning (S&OP) process for the bauxite and alumina business.The key purpose of the role requires coordination of complex stakeholder groups from across the business to deliver optimal value to the business. The stakeholder engagement and coordination is a key function of S&OP. Key stakeholders include operating sites (4 mines and 6 smelters), integrated operations team (Brisbane), Rio Tinto Marine, commercial finance and sales teams (Brisbane and Montreal).This is a fantastic opportunity for an assertive and progressive professional who is keen to perform and learn more about one of our commercial competencies in S&OP.Reporting to the S&OP & Customer Service Manager, you will:
Run the monthly bauxite and alumina S&OP drumbeat which includes:
Preparation and collation of key data for a demand led S&OP process - customer demand, shipping logistics plan and mine supply plan.
Working closely with the Sales, Production Planning, Technical Marketing and Integrated Operations teams to ensure underlying data is correct and resolution/trade-off options focus on business value. Matching demand and shipping logistics capacity to the mine supply forecast, and aligning plans if necessary in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Including identification of mismatches that require resolution or opportunities that represent value for the business.
Summarizing these issues and respective resolutions for presentation to senior management for decision making.
Preparing presentations for multiple monthly planning meetings and publishing mid-term plans (i.e. 2-12 months).
Key user for the S&OP integrated planning system and monitor enhancements to system- Anaplan.
Help to create a strong link between short and medium-term plans, focusing primarily on the 2-12-months time horizon - production, financial and commercial plans.
Help drive results and monitor progress from planned initiatives and various improvement projects.
Collaborate closely with the aluminium Atlantic and Pacific S&OP team to share best practice and improve the RT S&OP processes.
About youTo be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Bachelor Degree in either Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
At least 4 years of related experience across supply chain / supply & demand planning.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to reach out and build collaborative stakeholder relationships across different levels.
Ability to work well in matrix environment and strong stakeholder management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Leadership skills with focus on relationship building and business orientation.
Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload.
Be customer oriented, demand driven and conscious of the underlying production constraints.
Ability to engage with cross-functional stakeholders and manage competing demands.
Understanding of financial performance and underlying value drivers
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Knowledge of the bauxite, alumina or aluminum processes an advantage.
Knowledge of Power BI or any other data analytics tools/applications.
Previous experience with integrated planning systems is an advantage (SAP, Anaplan or others)
