The Payments Legal team partners with Uber\'s Payments, Risk & Identity team and Legal team to provide counsel on Uber\'s payments infrastructure in the ~70 global markets that Uber is active in. We #SeeTheForestAndTheTrees to provide the product and operations teams and local legal teams with the best possible advice to #BuildWithHeart in each market that Uber operates in.About The RoleWe\'re looking to hire an exceptional attorney with expertise in payments and financial services to join the Uber Legal Team. The job location will be determined in discussion with any successful candidate, but the role will be based in one of Uber\'s main office locations in the APAC region (e.g. Sydney, Taipei, Singapore, etc.).Your Impact in Role:

  • You\'ll work with colleagues from across Uber, including Legal, Product, Operations, Finance, and Business Development, helping to set strategy and provide legal leadership across the region.
  • You will make a real difference to the economic opportunities and financial inclusion agenda for people across the region - as Uber expands its global financial product capabilities.
  • You will be part of the teams securing high profile commercial partnerships and deals with material business impact, including network partnerships, new payment acceptance models and revenue recovery strategies that enhance the experience for all those who use our app.
  • You will be a key advisor to business leadership regionally on legal risks and opportunities, with a focus on payments and fintech/regtech innovations, development of financial services regulations, consumer protection themes, AML/CTF, KYC, sanctions, data privacy considerations and other areas where the law meets the business.
  • You will stay abreast of financial regulations that could impact Uber\'s business model and growth in the region.
  • You will be involved in the design, planning and launch of new and exciting product developments and business initiatives across the region and internationally.
  • You will manage outside counsel regionally, including budget planning and monitoring with the aim to ensure that the company receives cost-effective legal advice.
The Experience You\'ll Bring:
  • A minimum of 8 years experience with preference for a mix of in-house and law firm background.
  • An enthusiastic, team player with a passion for how technology can influence people\'s lives responsibly and within the law.
  • Strong knowledge of the laws and regulations that regulate payments and other types of financial transactions.
  • Understanding of legal principles applicable to payments and risk, including the payments ecosystem (e.g., the role of acquiring and issuing banks, card networks, payment processors, gateways, risk vendors, etc.), regulatory implications (e.g., stored value, money transmission and other payments, cross-border and international regulatory issues) and consumer protection laws.
  • Qualified attorney and Member of Bar Association or otherwise eligible to practice as In-House Counsel.
  • Knowledge of major payment network rules and processes and experience dealing with major payment networks.
  • Experience advising regulated payment entities and supporting payments compliance programs.
  • Strong legal regulatory background, and experience dealing with government agencies and regulators.
  • Possess excellent business judgment, communication and interpersonal skills.
