Job Description


The Staff Operations Engineer role in Singapore is synonymous with modern SRE. You will be part of the team that innovates the full Zendesk Chat product suite and enables a cheerful integration experience with our partners. As a Staff Operations Engineer you’ll be leading the team to scale, customize and maintain cloud infrastructure and operate with a DevOps mentality focus. Your Operations team manages the global infrastructure, particularly for chat. You will strive to automate everything possible, reduce toil and you’ll frequently ask yourself “what can I improve next?”.
What you get to do everyday:

  • Solve complex problems and provide simple sophisticated solutions
  • Contribute to the overall performance of the Zendesk production infrastructure and improvise the best practices in building the vital platform to support it.
  • Work closely with various internal functional teams in the process of micro architecting their services.
  • Spend hands-on in the latest cloud tech like Kubernetes, Containers, infrastructure as code (terraform), serverless architecture
  • Build and improve the tools we use to continue to run Zendesk so it can handle 6 Billion requests per day.
  • Participate in engineering sprints along with the Singapore Engineering teams (Agile)
  • Collaborate with your Operations/ZNOC/SRE teammates in Copenhagen, Dublin, and San Francisco using virtual meeting and chat tools [ZNOC:Zendesk Network Operations]
  • Partner with our tools, engineering, foundation, productivity and QA teams to ease the configuration and deployment of new services
  • Assist our Customer Support teams by creating the tools they need to solve problems and give our customers a beautiful experience
  • Participate in an on-call rotation along with the rest of the relevant Zendesk on-call teams once you are up to speed
  • Work in an agile development environment and believe that pragmatism always triumphs over dogmatism

What you bring to the role: Terraform and K8s are the cornerstones of our operation. Aside from that, we use a wide variety of technologies and everyone has the chance to learn new skills. We don’t expect anyone to be familiar with all of them (if you are please talk to us now!).
  • Hands-on experience in managing a public Cloud production Environment - Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Platform
  • Handled a high traffic application services with a committed uptime SLA
  • Practiced Infrastructure provisioning through configuration and code
  • Manage deployments and tune the performance of a highly scalable web service environment, preferably Python, Ruby etc. Language is not as important and competency.
  • Functional and operational understanding of MySQL, Redis, Memcached. Bonus: MongoDB, RIAK
  • Very substantial, multi year, hands on Linux experience,. Mostly we use Ubuntu
  • Monitoring tools: practical experience with Datadog, NewRelic, Prometheus and the like
  • You’ll also have great communication skills (written and verbal) that will enable successful collaboration with all our teams.
  • Practical programming language experience with Python, Go, Ruby and bash etc.
