Job description
Responsibilities
Prepares key project documentation including project construction specifications, project execution plan (PEP), equipment data sheets, bid packages and contract construction documentation for project execution
Prepares rough sketches, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and other engineering data by utilising engineering common network, software and tools for hull structure basic design
Coordinates with other engineering team members (i.e. stability & mooring, general design and weight control), subcontractors and consultants on technical issues and design solutions in the awarded project
Participates in project meeting, attends to basic technical queries and issues related to basic structural design and reviews design deliverables on project facilities, fabrication, transportation and installation
Liaises with owners, statutory and classification authorities for design compliance review and approval on the proposed project plans in meeting project requirements
Generates reports on work progress and submits to senior team members for review and approval before submitting to owners, statutory and classification authorities for approval and maintains project database for future references
Performs studies on a new range of offshore structures and vessels, and generates analysis on the basic structure design
Performs rule based longitudinal and hull strength scantling calculation for initial scantling determination
Prepares technical specifications by calculating hull plates and sections steel requirements to define usable steel materials, grades, thickness, quantity and costs for procurement and structural steel material take-offs
Formulates welding plans, specifications, drawings and sequences for joints and structural members, including main structure NDT Plan, structural tank test plan, structural categorization and no penetration zone plan
Performs analysis on main structure by generating design stress analysis to ensure design adequacy of structural members and details in main foundational framework
Job requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture/ Structure Engineering/ or related engineering disciplines
3 years of working experience in the area of concept and basic design in oil and gas industry
Experience in a wide range of marine and offshore structures (e.g. self-elevating units, column stabilized units, surface type units, new build FPSO hull design
Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Advanced user of Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD, STAAD and Adobe Acrobat
Good analytical and problem solving skills with attention to details
Some knowledge and experience in naval architecture, hydrodynamic, structural design and engineering principles will be an added advantage
Knowledge of engineering analysis techniques and tools/software applications used in naval architectural and structural engineering
Experience in the studies and optimization of hull form using CFD techniques coupled with model testing for the purpose of minimizing resistance or improvement of sea-keeping performance
Possesses ability to perform required analysis and deliver class approved documents and structural drawings
Some knowledge and experience in site inspection standards, class rules requirements and industry codes on hull and structure in marine operations will be an added advantage
