What does it take to become a Civican?
Civica is looking for an experienced System Architect Manager to join our growing team. The individual will be responsible for the implementation and improvements of applications or services within the organisation and customer environment, focus on detailed technical decisions and how they will deliver desired business outcomes and leading the delivery technical team and ensure the highest levels of accessibility, optimisation and security.
A day in the life...

  • Responsible for leading the system and engineering team in delivering cloud and application service.
  • Participate in RFP/RFQ and ensure that requirements/deliverables can be met by the delivery
  • Responsible for implementation of application and infrastructure systems cost-effectively.
  • Responsible for managing stakeholders, fixing any reliability issues and managing budgets.
  • Monitoring test performance of applications, foreseeing potential bottlenecks and identifying possible efficient solutions
  • Work with project manager in managing IT partners/vendors to ensure their scope of work are met.
  • Continually assessing infrastructure stability, security posture and application improvements, including cost reduction, performance, etc.
  • Responsible for responding to internal and external audits on the system.
  • Oversight of infrastructure including installing, configuring, testing and maintaining operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Continual maintenance of security, including backup and redundancy strategies.
  • Consistently and successfully provide guidance to 2nd and 3rd level support.

You possess the following qualities:
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related field
  • 6 to 10 years of experience in system administration, including installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows server-based environments, Active Directory, GPO, anti-virus etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate the complexities of technical solutions and problems in oral and written form.
  • Desire to work alongside the team to help design information and operational support systems
  • Strong understanding of Instruction Manual (IM8) and Application Infrastructure Standards (AIAS)
  • Proficiency in Server, Network, Security, Storage, Virtualisation, Backup, Disaster Recovery, Monitoring, Containerisation and Cloud technologies (Preferably Azure)
  • Ability to see potential issues and proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure accessibility
  • Ability to work with developers to implement releases and fixes
  • Competency in writing and maintaining custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce required human intervention
  • Knowledge in automation software (e.g. Puppet, Azure DevOps)
  • Hands-on experience with scripting (e.g. Powershell, Bash, Python)
  • Strong networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
  • Experienced in networking and security appliances (e.g. Next generation firewall, Load balancer, web application firewall)
  • Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specifications documents
  • Excellence in communication as a liaison with vendors and other IT personnel to resolve issues with strong technical writing skills
  • Competency in writing technical documentations and workflow processes (e.g. Network diagrams, access control, etc)
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical design and solution with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven strong leadership and initiative in problem solving.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and collaborative management style to include teamwork and team building ability
  • Flexible in a fast-paced dynamic environment with shifting roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent time management skills and self-motivated
  • A self-starter person with an interest in learning new technologies and keeping up to date with the latest technologies
