About the team:

At Aspire, Finance plays a strategic role in driving our business forward. Our Finance team consists of a wide range of crucial functions across 4 verticals: (i) Traditional Finance with Accounting, Tax, Reporting, (ii) Treasury, which is a core function for a Fintech, (iii) Data including Business Intelligence, Data Analytics and Data Engineering and (iv) Strategy & Planning, which covers strategic road map, long term planning, fundraising and FP&A. Our Finance team engages in frequent strategic data analysis, research, and modeling to provide the best financial insights for critical business decisions, helping Aspire navigate the competitive landscape and capitalize on emerging opportunities. The team also plays a key part as the first user of our Aspire software, pioneer in Finance transformation, reengineering our internal process to stay agile while maintaining the internal control in a hyper fast growing environment.

About the role:

We are looking for a highly passionate individual to join our dynamic and fast growing team. Directly reporting to the Group CFO, this role will require extensive hands-on local experience and a global mindset to provide tax advice and supporting documentation, compliance, and reporting for existing businesses and new business initiatives.

The candidate will work closely with external and internal stakeholders, including Finance, Legal, and Commercial departments, to consider current and future business plans, gather subject matter input, and ensure coordination and execution of tax solutions in a practical and sustainable manner.

The candidate must be comfortable directly liaising with various teams, stakeholders, and regions to gain a deep understanding of business requirements and international expansion plans. The candidate must be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, complex tax concepts and issues in ways that are meaningful and actionable to non-tax professionals.

What will you be doing?

  • Serve as the Subject Matter expert in relation to tax matters. This includes doing research and preparing tax advice on tax implications for the business.
  • Ensure the tax compliance and reporting obligations of the company are met timely, relating to corporate tax in Singapore, Indonesia and the United States, as well as local indirect taxes (GST/VAT) across SEA.
  • Support Aspire by providing advice on potential tax implications and mitigating measures relating to new product releases as well as company structure and expansion.
  • Strong understanding of and practical experience with tax laws and advisory in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas
  • Ability to appreciate the \'big picture\' and importance of a \'holistic\' approach in balancing commercial issues and tax technical positions
  • Manage external tax consultants from big 4 and lead projects for tax related issues. Upcoming tax projects include:
  • GST analysis and investigations,
  • WHT analysis for cross border transactions
  • Transfer Pricing
  • Improvement of finance processes and implementation of new controls to ensure tax compliance
We would love to get to know you if you have the following:
  • At least 4 - 8 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in both public accounting and commercial firms
  • Strong direct and indirect tax technical knowledge as well as international tax and transfer pricing, and ability to apply them
  • Successfully managed complex global projects and demonstrated experience with multiple tax jurisdictions is a must
  • Strong verbal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Passion for finance, technology and start-ups
  • Experience in the Finance / Fintech industry
