Job Description


UWCSEA East has a vacancy for August 2024 for a Teacher of Primary School Art.

The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking Primary School Art educator , passionate about delivering exciting learning. They will bring with them a passion for choice-based Art Education and a rich understanding of concept based learning. The successful candidate will recognise the power of learner agency in building compassionate and efficacious students. They will also possess a range of strategies to build effective and engaging working relationships with students and colleagues.

Our teachers actively promote the College\xe2\x80\x99s Mission, Educational Goal, Values and Learning Principles through their supportive engagement with students, colleagues and parents. They actively participate in all five elements of the UWCSEA learning programme: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service. On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service and, on occasion, volunteering for holiday Outdoor Education trips.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a happy, stimulating, safe learning environment for all children and bring a sense of energy, joy and fun to the classroom.
  • Support children as capable, curious artists by nurturing their creativity, providing them with opportunities to explore various art forms, encouraging their self-expression, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment where their artistic talents can flourish.
  • Plan, teach and assess through engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote agentic learning and the holistic development of each child.
  • Reflect continually on your craft as a teacher and commit to personal and professional development and growth.
  • Enthusiastically participate in professional learning, both that which is mandated by the College and that which is identified by the individual.
  • Employ a wide variety of learning and teaching strategies including the use of new technologies to make learning both effective and enjoyable.
  • Work as a member of the College wide Art team, planning learning engagements collaboratively, sharing resources and offering insight to the team in areas of specialism.
  • Contribute towards an environment that celebrates student artwork and creativity through the thoughtful and considered use of exhibitions and displays.
  • Contribute to the continuous professional development of Teaching Assistants.
  • Integrate technology effectively within the classroom for learning, planning, assessment purposes and the documentation of student learning.
  • To build positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders.

Person Specifications
  • A relevant degree in Primary Education from an accredited institution and a recognized professional teaching qualification or certification are essential.
  • Further training and/or certification in Art Education.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years, Primary Art teaching experience, preferably in international schools (4-11 year olds).
  • Experience teaching students who are English Language Learners.
  • Experience of a concept based curriculum would be advantageous.
  • A committed and creative practitioner, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative practice to raise achievement.
  • A passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
  • A willingness to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, and enthusiastic participation in and delivery of Professional Learning is expected. Evidence of regular and recent professional learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and spoken. The language of the workplace and the language of instruction is English.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
Knowledge of and experience in the following would be an advantage:
  • International curricula, their delivery and assessment
  • Understanding of and experience in \xe2\x80\x98Teaching for Artistic Behaviour\xe2\x80\x99
