Job Description


UWCSEA East is seeking a Teaching Assistant - Art to join in August 2023.

Reporting to the Primary School Leadership Team and Head of Primary School Art, the teaching assistant (TA) will assist in the delivery of the learning programme within the classroom environment and other settings as directed by the Primary School Art Team.

Main Responsibilities

Pre-lesson Support

  • Support students during break times as well as arrival and departure as required.
  • Assist in planning, preparation and the use of specialist materials, strategies, and resources.
During Lesson Support
  • Engage in all aspects of student learning and curriculum, including programme delivery, goal setting and assessment.
  • Positively and proactively deliver targeted support to students with diverse learning profiles within the classroom environment and other school settings.
  • Work with the students individually or in a small group setting; supervising activities assigned by the teacher.
  • Support and fully engage in all 5 elements of the UWCSEA programme, including activities and service, where appropriate, and outdoor education, including full participation in multi night residential camps.
Documentation
  • Monitor and record student progress, well-being and behaviour in an effort to better meet students\xe2\x80\x99 needs and goals.
  • Observe students and take anecdotal notes to inform planning of appropriate interventions, and next steps.
  • Participate in professional conversations to share above documentation.
  • Assist in the display and showcasing of student learning.

  • Build positive, productive relationships with the students to support their engagement and learning, including building opportunities to draw on student interests and strengths within the learning programme.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrating a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
Other
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of individual/family circumstances.
  • Abide by the school\xe2\x80\x99s policies and practices, including the code of conduct and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions within the school setting and on school business.
  • Engage in, and complete all required safeguarding training and use relevant College systems
  • Use initiative to take on additional responsibilities as and when required.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Person Specifications

Essential
  • Experience in similar settings essential: at least 2 years of relevant experience in similar capacity with children aged 7 - 11 years old
  • A willingness to learn and a commitment to ongoing professional learning is essential to keep up \xc2\xadto date and continue to improve own practice
  • Proficiency with technology is essential, including Google platforms, Gmail and Google calendar and a working knowledge of Mac
  • Must be passionate about working with children aged 7 - 11 to positively impact their learning, demonstrating a caring and supportive approach
  • Excellent English (written and spoken) communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work cohesively in a team based environment as well as independently
  • Must be able flexible, willing and able to adapt and change at short notice in response to student and school needs
  • Physically fit and able to work with students, including working on the floor with students, kneeling, supervising student up and down the stairs, outdoor duties, and accompanying students on outdoor activities, including off-campus and multiple overnight camps
Desirable
  • Qualification (Certificate/diploma in Art) is highly desirable
  • Some artistic skills and appreciation of Art is desirable
  • Experience using technology for learning and administration purposes.
