Job Description

We are looking for a full-time tutor to help us teach two interdisciplinary modules at the College of Humanities and Sciences. The ideal candidate is passionate about bringing together the rigor of quantitative methods with the attention to nuance of the humanities. The classes follow a lecture/tutorial model. All the lectures will be delivered by the professors coordinating the modules. Your role will be to help the students in their programming assignments (in Python), coordinate discussions about the social implications of data, grade short essays, and help student groups develop simple projects that apply data science principles to study aspects of the humanities and the social sciences (from linguistics to popular culture).

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor\'s Degree with Honours in a relevant field

1. Strong foundation in statistics and quantitative data analysis techniques. Must-have: probability. Good-to-have: information theory, machine learning, and network analysis.
2. Proficiency in Python and experience with the Jupyter environment (ability to work across operating systems and troubleshoot Virtual Environment installations is a big plus). Familiarity with Pandas and Matplotlib are essential. Desirable: experience with NLTK, scikit-learn and networkx.
3. Good-to-have: Basic familiarity with the principles of natural language processing (how models are applied to lexical semantics, parsing, etc.) and the principles behind large language models and/or basic training in any discipline of the humanities.
4. Teaching experience and the ability to coordinate seminar-style discussions and group activities.

We don\'t require any specific formal qualifications in data science, but demonstrable experience in data analysis is a must. Please submit a data science portfolio or a GitHub profile as part of your application.
