What the role is:The Environmental Health Institute (EHI) is a public health laboratory under the National Environment Agency (NEA). You will be part of the Arthropod Ecology Section, where research is focused on acquiring knowledge on biting arthropods (such as mosquitoes) to assess risk and develop strategies to safeguard public health.What you will be working on:In this role, you will provide essential support to research activities by undertaking a combination of tasks that may include:

  • The rearing of mosquito colonies and general maintenance of related facilities.
  • Upkeep and preparation of fieldwork equipment for conducting insect trapping.
  • Administrative responsibilities such as the official receiving of samples for identification and data recording.
We are looking for detail-oriented and committed individuals to help us ensure that our key functions are fulfilled effectively. We will work with you to grow your responsibilities as part of professional development. This may involve the conducting of experiments, improving existing protocols and/or performing basic data analyses.You will be provided with comprehensive on-the-job training, to take on this unique and meaningful set of work.What we are looking for:The job might be for you if you possess the following qualities:
  • Able to communicate clearly - converse, read and write in English.
  • Computer literate and able to use basic computer tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word).
  • Comfortable with handling mosquitoes and other insects.
  • Able and willing to follow established standard operating procedures (SOP) and adhere to a work schedule.
  • Willing to work staggered hours and after office-hours including weekends and public holidays if the need arises.
  • Are physically fit and a non-smoker (since nicotine has insecticidal properties).
  • Possession of a valid driver\'s license is preferable.
