Currently, more than 1800 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located at the edge of Singapore\'s largest nature reserve.

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional environment and contribute to the school\'s theatre team. If you are a motivated and talented individual with a passion for the arts, we encourage you to apply for this 6-month internship.

Key responsibilities

\xc2\xb7 Work as a Sound Operator or Light Board Operator for any production that you are assigned

\xc2\xb7 Assist with sourcing properties for all productions

\xc2\xb7 Assist with video setups and running equipment as assigned

\xc2\xb7 Work as backstage crew for any production that you are assigned

\xc2\xb7 Attend all technical rehearsals, rehearsals, calls and/or meetings as required

\xc2\xb7 Pre-production, setup and assisting with the running of rehearsals for any production that you are assigned

\xc2\xb7 Working either backstage or as an operator for performances for any production that you are assigned

\xc2\xb7 Maintaining rehearsal items as necessary

\xc2\xb7 Assist the with moving stage equipment as assigned

\xc2\xb7 Eager to learn, has good interpersonal communication skills

Lighting & Sound

\xc2\xb7 Operating and programming digital lighting board

\xc2\xb7 Assist with the installation, hang, focus, and strike of lighting and sound equipment as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Setup and use microphones, recording voiceovers and effects

\xc2\xb7 Ability to lead the acquisition, retrieval, and production of soundtracks for performances, including editing and processing where necessary

\xc2\xb7 Setup electronic musical instruments, and amplifiers

Training & Support of Staff & Students

\xc2\xb7 Support the Teaching & Learning, events, activities, productions, and development of facilities/resources

\xc2\xb7 Provide training to members of staff and students on the use of equipment or technology as required to support performing arts & events

\xc2\xb7 Observe and contribute to support lessons as and when required

\xc2\xb7 Assist with setting up and bump out of spaces for various events

\xc2\xb7 Presence at relevant rehearsals, mostly in the auditorium, to assist with lighting design, focusing of lights, QLab programming, and other technical departments

Other Production Responsibilities

\xc2\xb7 Managing technical areas & maintaining safe environments (dressing cables, gel inventory, accessories, maintaining a technical equipment audit etc)

\xc2\xb7 Filming productions/performances when requested with built in recording equipment

\xc2\xb7 Video editing skills

\xc2\xb7 Managing a video archive including photographs, videos and programs

\xc2\xb7 Work with multi-media performance styles (e.g. projections)

\xc2\xb7 Effective with time management and scheduling

Communicating

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with students, teachers and facilities department

\xc2\xb7 Ensure smooth co-ordination of tasks - by initiating discussions to promote progress

\xc2\xb7 Attend various scheduled production meetings

General

\xc2\xb7 Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the role

\xc2\xb7 Work in areas of the school on other events - related tasks as circumstances require (e.g. black box, music area, outside performance venues)

\xc2\xb7 Operate within the policies of GESS

\xc2\xb7 Undertake additional responsibilities as determined by the Theatre Technician &/or Head of Creative Arts

Qualifications and Experience

\xc2\xb7 Completion of Secondary Education with Drama as a subject

\xc2\xb7 Experience backstage dealing with props and costumes

\xc2\xb7 Excellent organizational and communications skills

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with MAC operating system, basic proficiency in MS Office 365

\xc2\xb7 Ability to hit the ground running and take initiative to assist wherever needed

\xc2\xb7 Ability to follow instructions well and have patience

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with and affinity for the arts, specifically drama and music performances

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with basic stage direction and terminology

\xc2\xb7 Applicants should be comfortable working at heights

\xc2\xb7 Good command of written and spoken English

\xc2\xb7 The ability to communicate well and work in a team is essential

\xc2\xb7 Experience acting and directing student productions

Preferred Experience:

\xc2\xb7 Proficient in German language

Our School
