What the role is:
The GRaduate Industry Traineeship Programme within the Public Service (GRIT@Gov) aims to provide fresh graduates with opportunities to gain industry-relevant skills and experience that can strengthen their employability to take up full time roles in the sector. The Trainee (Legal) will be required to assist officers in the Legal Office with legal research, due diligence and legislative projects. During the training period, the Trainee (Legal) will become acquainted with the Ministry of Health's various areas of oversight, including healthcare finance, ageing, health technology, healthcare infrastructure, professional discipline and sector regulation. The Trainee (Legal) will also provide support for various internal workstreams, including the restructuring and outsourcing of various existing Ministry functions. We are seeking legally-trained and motivated individuals who have the passion to learn, grow and contribute at the intersection of law and public health. The Trainee (Legal) is expected to acquire competency in a wide spectrum of legal disciplines during the traineeship, including transactions/contracts, dispute management, advisory, prosecution and legislative matters.
What you will be working on:

  • Draft and review the Ministry's dealings/documentation with other parties, including working on contracts, international agreements, organisational changes, disputes, statutory appeals and judicial reviews. o Assist the Ministry's policy divisions with the formulation and vetting of proposed legislation (including legislation scanning), and advice on policy/operational matters with legal implications. o Manage potentially contentious disputes on behalf of the Ministry, including statutory appeals. o Support prosecutorial and enforcement work in connection with offences under the Ministry's purview. o Drafting and vetting drafting instructions for the promulgation of new public healthcare legislation, including laws relating to health information and healthcare financing.
