Job Description


This position of Underwriter, Engineering holds the responsibility to produce and underwrite risks appropriate to the defined Class of business on behalf of the syndicate in accordance with the approved business plan and defined personal authority limits. The candidate shall manage a team member in the APAC Engineering team, with direct reporting into Head of Short Tail, APAC and a matrix line to the Global Head of Engineering.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop the Engineering Portfolio and proposition in APAC & MENA, as per the Global D+F Engineering and Heavy Industry SBF Management Plan
  • Work within the Global Engineering Underwriting guidelines and risk appetite philosophy
  • Work in close cooperation with London to manage overlap and be consistent, wherever applicable
  • Manage and develop the Regional Engineering team.
  • Assess and underwrite renewal and new business in a timely and efficient manner in line with the business plan and personal authority limits.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, cedants and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Analyse terms, specification, and rating on prospective and existing business
  • Compile underwriting reports as appropriate.
  • Maintain good relationships with external and internal parties as appropriate.
  • Compile statistics and analyse performance of all risks and accounts.
  • Compile wordings and proposal forms
  • Report monthly Premium Income figures
Skills and experience:
  • Technical knowledge of underwriting specific to Engineering business lines
  • Broad exposure to distribution streams
  • Active involvement in APAC markets is essential.
  • Lloyd\xe2\x80\x99s and London market experience would be an advantage.
  • ACII qualification preferable but not essential
  • Degree preferable but not essential
  • Strong IT skills, literacy, numerate and having analytical and negotiation skills.
