What the role is
The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in greater harmony within our City in Nature. You will be part of the Centre for Animal and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) team under the Professional and Scientific Services Division of AVS. As a member of the trans-disciplinary team at CAVS, you will be responsible for providing professional and competent laboratory diagnostic and research support for veterinary investigations and surveillance programmes for the detection of animal and zoonotic diseases, as well as veterinary diagnostic and laboratory services to the public, with the objective of meeting NParks’ mission to create the best living environment through excellence in nature conservation, greenery and recreation, and veterinary care, in partnership with the community.
What you will be working on
• Conducting post-mortem examinations, collecting samples for ancillary testing, carrying out diagnostic tests in histopathology, cytology, and parasitology, and generating necropsy reports for aquatic, avian and mammalian animal species, in support of animal disease and welfare investigations, biosurveillance programmes, research, and trade facilitation • Supporting laboratory quality assurance system in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 • Reviewing and implementing administrative protocols and operational procedures related to laboratory diagnostic tests, laboratory management, workplace safety and health, and data and inventory management • Participating in disease outbreak investigations as part of the NParks Veterinary team.
What we are looking for
• Degree in Veterinary Science with strong interest in the field of anatomic pathology • Highly motivated individual with initiative, drive and passion for veterinary science and its application to safeguard animal health and welfare, and biodiversity and conservation • Possesses good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) • Able to balance working independently and in a team environment • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications • Basic knowledge of ISO 17025:2017 and workplace safety and health will be advantageous Office Location: The Animal & Plant Health Centre 6 Perahu Road Singapore 718827 Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
