Job Scope

The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting certain aspects of the financial accounting, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting for the company.

This role also provides operations exposure with the preparation of claim and technical bookings. Responsible for supporting projects to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of reporting requirements in an increasingly complex environment. The role may have close interaction across multiple functional areas of the business and work with the wider Finance Team to add value across relevant business areas.

The role provides opportunities to develop specific skillsets and to progress within a dynamic team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Reinsurance Accounting

  • Assist with all aspects of monthly and quarterly reinsurance premiums and claims reporting from internal business unit level reporting and legal entity reviews to external SEC, GAAP and local Singapore regulatory reporting
  • Assist with maintaining an appropriate S.O.X 404 control environment for the booking of premiums and claims and related transactions in both the reinsurance accounting systems and the general ledger
  • Perform accounting reviews and analysis of reinsurance contracts to ensure appropriate GAAP accounting treatment
  • Assist with technical analysis of contracts and other FASB and SEC research
  • Assist with the timely monthly and quarterly close of the reinsurance systems
  • Perform detailed analysis and monthly/quarterly reconciliation of assumed/ceded premiums and claims to ensure a thorough understanding of reported results, troubleshooting any issues through to a successful conclusion
  • Participate in on-going refinement/improvements of business processes, analytical tools and the reinsurance accounting platform ensuring that the Singapore team needs are met
Financial Accounting
  • Complete aspects of the monthly and quarterly consolidation and close processes
  • Ensure appropriate SOX 404 processes exist and are followed for preparation and submission of financial data
  • Support the continued enhancement and on-going development of various financial systems
  • Support the preparation of detailed analysis, journal entry bookings and monthly/quarterly reconciliations to the general ledger, including bank and intercompany reconciliations
  • Assist in the management of monthly GL entries
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets and other financial plans for management information and group reporting
  • Assist with annual GAAP and Statutory financial statements
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors and vendors
Operations Claims processing
  • Perform ongoing analysis and monitoring of reported claims
  • Assist with policy processing
  • Assist with premium and receivable reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Assist with bordereaux processing
  • Liaise with global reinsurance operations and claims teams to troubleshoot complex issues and ensure processes are efficient and meet S.O.X. 404 requirements
Strategic Projects
  • Perform adhoc accounting projects and provide support to the global Finance team as needed
Requirements
  • Degree/Diploma with emphasis on business, finance and accounting
  • Professional accounting designation will be advantageous (e.g. CA, ACA, CPA)
  • A minimum of 2 years of Big Four external audit experience or equivalent and 2 years\' post-qualification experience.
  • Experience working with general insurance organisations, as an auditor or internal accountant, is preferred
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and an understanding of GAAP for reinsurance transactions
  • Experience with public companies and SOX 404 is advantageous
  • Experience in FRS117 Insurances is advantageous
  • Proficiency in the use of computer systems and applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft D365 and SICS reinsurance accounting systems is preferred
  • Strong analytical and communication skills to garner immediate credibility both inside and outside the organization
  • Demonstration of a sound and reliable work ethic; outstanding problem-solving skills; proven organization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner
