Alongside one of the world's largest logistics companies, BCG Digital Ventures is building an Ocean Freight Venture to empower freight forwarders to grow their business globally. Our digital platform will empower them to:

  • Access freight capacity on a large & reliable logistics network
  • Unlock advantageous freight rates & guaranteed space only available to large forwarders & customers
  • Increase efficiency across operations including quoting, booking, documentation, tracking & more
This venture is backed by a large global logistics company renowned in driving innovation within the industry and with its unique strategic advantage, the venture is well-positioned to fully disrupt the industry.

We are looking for an APAC Head of Ocean Freight Venture who will report directly to the global leadership team. It will be a "roll-up-your-sleeves" position that requires a high-energy, well-rounded commercial leader who can effectively launch a new industry vertical while establishing a team of business development, product management and operations executives. This role can be located in either Singapore, China or Hong Kong.

In this role, you will:

Launch and establish a new industry vertical for one of the world's largest logistics companies
  • Drive the commercialisation and launch of an untapped industry vertical from greenfield in the region
  • Escalate the growth of the industry vertical with access to the assets and resources of a large global logistics company
  • Act as liaison with global headquarters to ensure deployment of global and regional policies and procedures, while allowing localisation to meet local environment needs & requirements
Define and execute the commercial strategy in the region, with ambitions to expand globally
  • Actively build and maintain strong, sustainable, trusted advisor-oriented relationships across industry practice leaders and client leaders to generate new revenue & partnership opportunities
  • Drive the entire sales funnel including lead generation and qualification, pipeline and opportunity management, proposal and presentation best practices, and managing overall opportunities from qualification to close
  • Collaborate with technology teams to refine the product roadmap and prioritize user features based on customer feedback, and maintain alignment between product and business goals
Build a high-performing team of business development, product management and operations executives
  • Play a key role in attracting, engaging, and developing team members to build a high-performance culture
  • Provide leadership and hands-on guidance for all operations including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
  • Lead the internal communication strategy and management of regular team communications, all-hands, and global leadership meetings
What we are looking for:
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience within the ocean freight industry; experience commercialising a new business unit is a plus
  • Solid track record driving business development in the region, particularly within China
  • Established network with executive leadership team of freight forwarders in the region
  • Excellent people management skills with expertise in building efficient and effective cross-functional departments
  • Track record of leading and scaling cross-functional teams, as well as setting up structures and processes; experience in an early-stage start-up is a plus
  • Well-versed in working in a global matrix organisation with distributed teams
  • Sound digital acumen or prior experience launching a digital business unit will be a bonus
