The Art Assistant is responsible to provide teaching and administrative support for the Art Department, under the guidance of the Head of Department. Their main duties include: Key Responsibilities: Teaching and learning

  • Providing support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Providing support in lessons for practical/higher risk activities.
  • Assisting with demonstrations or material examples as required.
  • Preparation of materials and equipment in advance of practical lessons.
  • Photographing/documenting student outcomes.
Administrative and general duties
  • Ensuring that all departmental materials and equipment are in good, safe working order and stored safely and securely.
  • Maintenance and management of technologies within the department.
  • Overseeing stocks and ordering of departmental consumables.
  • Overseeing and maintaining departmental spaces (classrooms, kiln room, store room etc).
  • Loading and firing the kiln.
  • Preparing and presenting displays of students' work both in the classroom and surrounding areas.
  • Sourcing display materials and specialist printing related to events and exhibitions.
  • Assisting with the organisation of events and exhibitions.
  • Assisting with the planning and organising of departmental trips.
  • Assisting with the planning and organising of visiting practitioners.
  • Assisting with examination administration if required.
  • Attending school meetings as appropriate to the role.
Other Duties
  • Maintaining confidentiality and observing data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.
  • Observing all practices relating to child protection, security, fire and emergency and Health and Safety.
  • Understanding and complying with all other relevant school policies.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the level of responsibilities of the post.
  • Participate in in-service training as appropriate to the role.
Safeguarding:
  • Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes
Qualifications/Skills
  • Diploma holder in a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to adapt to a fast paced environment
  • Positive team player, with previous experience in a school setting preferred
  • Meticulous, resourceful and with a strong sense of initiative
