Your field of responsibility
Reporting the Global Head of Distribution, the Asia Head of Institutional Distribution has overall responsibility for regional institutional distribution. They will play the leadership role for managing the institutional sales and marketing efforts and for significantly driving sustainable revenue and asset growth in region. The person will have responsibility for determining which capabilities and the client value proposition being offered to various client channels. The primary role is to drive sales and build new relationships resulting in positive inflows with official institutions, insurance companies, pensions and other institutions across Asia. Given the modernisation of some of these channels in recent years, the individual will also be a key leader and contributor to our global institutional partnership program. The executive will work closely with the product and investment organisations, assisting in market insight, providing input to product development in the form of challenges for clients, trends, ideas, potential innovations and emerging solutions and ultimately designing and implementing the business plan and sales strategy for the business unit. They will play a significant role in the further integration of technology as a means of client engagement and retention and be a key voice for the “client” within the firm. Position responsibilities includes:


  • In collaboration with the distribution leadership team, develop the group’s distribution strategy and its expansion in both existing and new markets where its investment offering is, or can be, relevant and attractive
  • Implement an enhanced distribution strategy for the firm in line with the vision for the broader business and lead its promotion externally in the market
  • Provide leadership – optimising the distribution function structure and clearly communicating a unified message on direction, strategy, plans and performance
  • Further develop a best-in-class distribution function which balances the specialisation and dedication required by key clients with economies of scale
  • Ensure that sales team has sophisticated product and client knowledge vital to optimise distribution, placing technology at the heart of that business
  • Develop and sponsor initiatives that will drive increased revenues and profitability in line with the firm’s risk appetite and financial objectives
  • Champion the use of cognitive technology and digital solutions to optimise the use of internal resources
  • Help promotes the brand by establishing and delivering a consistent proposition to the market that recognises the diversity and strengths of the product offering in response to the requirements of the various clients
  • Actively participate in product strategy and development in conjunction with the Heads of Distribution, Product Management and Corporate Strategy
  • Lead, coach and develop direct reports and their teams. Champion a positive and constructive working environment and team-driven culture along with commercial awareness, which will continue to increase customer orientation and service standards
  • Responsible for Talent Management, Succession Planning and Training Needs Analysis across distribution
  • Cultivate collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst team and partners
  • Enforce to the values in behaviour and the teams’, in particular demonstrating “fairness”
  • Operate the distribution function in accordance with the relevant supervisory authorities principle-based regulations, including: the relevant principles for businesses; requirements relating to general systems and controls; any detailed requirements on the conduct of business with customers, including any outsourced activities; and understanding and meeting the requirements of the regulatory system
  • Understand and ensure compliance with the relevant regulatory body’s statements of principles and/or code of practice for your authorisation
  • Act with integrity; due skill, care and diligence
  • As appropriate, delegate responsibility, ensuring that the individual has clear understanding of the requirements and an awareness of the relevant regulatory body’s regimes to be able to effectively carry out the role
  • Identify and mitigate risk within Distribution
  • Effectively operate the control environment for your function and ensure the effective and timely resolution of any audit, compliance or control issues arising

Your skills and experience

The Asia Head of Institutional Distribution will ideally come from the asset management industry. They will have already achieved success in their career as an executive who understands distribution, client service and the notion of acting as a fiduciary. The executive must come with strong understanding of technology and how to demonstrate its used to drive standard processes and positive client engagement.
  • Proven track record of leading a distribution organisation in addition to turning around and accelerating a highly functional sales force – ideally in asset management in Asia
  • Good standing in the asset management industry with deep recognition and connections within appropriate client segments
  • A current or former key executive (including distribution, marketing, fund/portfolio manager and/or asset allocation segment manager) – ideally from a large and global asset manager
  • A strategic problem solver who creates and believes in a compelling vision for the future of global asset management
  • Comfortable with complexity of seamlessly running a large and complementary team, client solutions and distribution frameworks
  • Entrepreneurial spirit who can work well cross-functionally in a highly matrixed environment
  • Proven leader in sales, CRM, business development, marketing, pitch design and relationship build-outs (internal and external)
  • Sense of urgency and ownership to develop and achieve expected goals for the organisation
  • Believes in the evolution of the asset management business and long-term value of the services that Credit Suisse Asset Management offers to their clients
  • Superior communication skills to negotiate and instill trust, successfully driving shared relationship management across the platform (internal and external).
